FRANCIS JUKES (BRITISH, 1747 - 1812)VIEW OF EASTWARDS TOWARDS CAPE SEPET, NEAR TOULON aquatint on paper, titled, attributed and dated 179422cm x 36cm Mounted, framed and under glass.Note: The narrative states that the original drawing was done “On the Spot, by Capt. J. Knight, R.N.”. The significance of this is that Knight was placed in command of H.M.S. Victory, following an outbreak of hostilities between Britain and Spain in the early 1790’s. Victory, of course, later became Nelson’s flagship at Trafalgar. It follows that the original drawing must have been taken from the deck of Victory. Knight was later appointed to high office.
