John S. Caggiano (Born 1949) American artist, signed lower left. Tropical/palms subject, vibrant colors. Born in Brooklyn, New York in 1949, Caggiano received his B.A. from Brooklyn College and a MFA from the Pratt Institute. He furthered his studies through courses at the Brooklyn Museum of Art. He paints in the plein aire approach with a bright and colorful palette in an impressionism/realism style. He relocated to Cape Ann in 1980 and has maintained a gallery in Rockport, Massachusetts from 1981- on. Caggiano was the President of the Rockport Art Association from 1991 to 1993 and served on its board of governors for 16 years. Overall size: 26 3/4 x 18 3/4 in. Sight size: 15 1/2 x 11 1/2 in. Holmead -- Grüne Landschaft; Landschaft mit Farmhaus2 Gemälde, Öl auf dicker Malpappe. 1922.Beide ca. 30,5 x 40,5 cm.Unten rechts mit Pinsel in Schwarz bzw. Rot monogrammiert "HP" und datiert, verso beide mit Kreide in Schwarz signiert "Holmead" und datiert. Die vorliegenden Gemälde lassen sich in die frühe Schaffensphase Holmeads einordnen, in der er sich der weichen impressionistischen Landschaftsmalerei widmete und sich der Tradition des naturgetreuen romantischen Stils der amerikanischen "Hudson River School" zuwandte. 1922 befand sich der Künstler in Provincetown, Cape Cod, wo seine Landschaftsdarstellungen mit Bäumen und oftmals Farmhäusern entstanden. Die pastose Maltechnik deutet bereits auf seinen späteren sehr expressiven Malstil hin. In der Wahl der Sujets und der zarten Farbigkeit überzeugen beide Arbeiten mit einer gewissen Leichtigkeit. Worldwide, vintage albums, a somewhat battered Senf album for issues to 1899, with many hundreds of stamps from penny black onwards, including GB 8d orange and 1/- values, Holland #1 on thick paper with large margins, Norway 1857 8sk cds, interesting Indian States, St. Helena 1871 6d, trio of Cape triangulars to 6d, Canada useful large and small queens, Queensland 1882 10/- & £1, New Zealand 6d imperf Chalon four margins, China coiling dragons, etc. Then the well-filled Strand album with well over 1500 different mint and used stamps mostly classics to 1930s with interesting revenues, locals, stationery cut-squares, etc, noted China, Turkey, Persia, US, etc. Other items in the box include a stack of old postcards, loose stamps (especially Russia), Japan souvenir page of classics, etc. Mixed condition as to be expected. Discoveries likely.
