For this reason…..I would not fail apprizing you of her safe arrival, to prevent any reinsurance that might be done in consequence of the said reports’, also informing his correspondent ‘She left, in the latter days of April, the Cape of Good Hope, where the Anonyme, bound from this Place to Bengall, was luckily arrived. She left also in that Place the Laverdy, the St. Jean Bapt[ist]e, and the Hypopotame, from the Mauricius, wich are daily expected here’. Palsy continues his letter with a report of HMS Resolution, stating ‘There was the English Fregat, wich Capt. Cook is the commander of, in her way home from New Zealande. According to what the Purser of the Beaumont related, Captain Cook has had many of his People burnt alive by the same Folcks that have killed and eated up the poor French Captain Marion, and his crew, has killed a great number of them, and brings one alive over to England’.
