Engraved hand-colored map, printed on two sheets neatly pasted together, 18 1/2 x 24 in., with a decorative cartouche featuring fish nets, with the southern coast of Labrador to the north, a bit of Newfoundland to the east, Boston just showing at the southwest corner, and Lake Champlain and Montreal to the west. The main focus of the map is Nova Scotia, Saint John`s Island and Cape Breton, with careful renderings of the Saint Lawrence River, Maine, New Hampshire, and northern Massachusetts.

Science – botany – Kew Gardens Extract of a letter from Sir Joseph Banks dated September 1st 1814 recommending the appointment of two botanical collectors at the Cape of Good Hope and other Distant parts abroad for the Royal Botanic Garden at Kew^ printed Parliamentary Paper HC374^ in which Banks proposes sending two botanists to the Cape for a season with one to travel on to Australia. (1734-1805) of Fillingham, who built for her the splendid 'Gothick' Castle at Fillingham to the designs of John Carr of Doncaster. Lady Wray died in 1825 aged 88. Sittings to the artist are recorded in April 1767, and the entry in the artist's ledger notes a payment of 35gns. CONDITION REPORT: She has a pallid complexion. Extensive repainting- most noticeable on face, especially lower part and neck, continues down chest and dress. Also, evident to background- viewing recommended.
