Vladimir Beilin (Russian, 20th C.) "Soyuz-Apollo Docking in Space" Watercolor. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting was originally published on the Fleetwood First Day of Issue Maximum Card for the Russia Soyuz-Apollo stamp issued May 29, 1992. Its announced goal was to test a docking system designed for use in space rescue missions. But to the people of the United States and Soviet Union, the Soyuz-Apollo joint mission meant much more. First small warming trend in the Cold War, the mission began on July 15, 1975, with the launches of Soyuz and Apollo spacecraft from the Baikonur Cosmodrome and Cape Canaveral just a few hours apart. The two craft took two days to maneuver into position for docking 140 miles above the surface of the Earth. Then, in an intricate series of rocket thrusts, the Apollo docking module successfully latched onto the Soyuz. In awkward Russian, astronaut Tom Stafford exulted "We have succeeded!" His Soviet counterpart Alexei Leonov responded in English "Good show!" In the festive atmosphere that followed, astronauts Stafford, Vance Brand and Donald Slayton greeted cosmonauts Leonov and Valery Kubasov with the first "handshake in space" and even shared a friendly meal of borscht aboard Soyuz. Image Size: 8.5 x 12 in. Overall Size: 10.25 x 15 in. Unframed. (B13800)

(63 - 4302) In 1960, Koether was accepted to the school of the Art Institute of Chicago at age 20. In 1963 Koether Moved to New York City and started going to the Art Student?s League. In June of 1966 he graduated with honors from N.Y.U. and was accepted to the N.Y.U. graduate school of Communications Arts in Cinematography under Haig Manoogian. In 1970, he moved to Paris to take a studio space at the American Center on Boulevard Raspail. In July of ?71 Koether went to Italy and did a lot of drawing and watercolors. In Florence he met Italian art restorers and learned a lot about restoration from them. That same year, he participated in a group show at the American Center and sold several pieces ? one to director Henry Pillsbury. The work from Ibiza and Paris dealt with attempts to delineate abstraction as a form with his own experience of his own abstractness ? landscapes and still-lives of his own psychic and emotional space. This work has a post-psychedelic aspect. In 1974 Koether moved back to New York and worked in N.Y.C. as an art restorer with Roger Ricco Associates. That year, he had a one man show at Ajanta Gallery on East 9th Street. In 1976, Koether moved to Australia and established an art conservation business and worked on the 5 major collections of Oceanic art in Australia. Howard Koslow (American, 1924 - 2016) "North Carolina's Cape Lookout Lighthouse" Signed lower right. Acrylic on Illustration Board. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting was originally published on the Fleetwood First Day Cover for the U.S. 37? Cape Lookout Lighthouse stamp issued June 13, 2003. War and the forces of mother nature have often worked against the Cape Lookout Lighthouse, however it has endured, and is still used today. In 1804 Congress authorized the lighthouse, but it wasn't actually built until 1812, even though it was desperately needed to aid ships navigating the treacherous Lookout Shoals. Often sailors complained that the original tower was too short and not bright enough, making it difficult and dangerous to find. Passage into Lookout Bight Harbor wasn't enhanced until 1859, when a new lighthouse was approved, completed and lit. Erosion washed away 1,000 feet of land between the lighthouse and Core Sound from 1940 to 1970, and today the wind and sea continue to bring the water closer to the tower. The existing Cape Lookout Lighthouse became automated and unmanned in 1950. And with today's advanced navigation systems, ships no longer rely on the security of a single light, blinking at intervals. Image Size: 14 x 12 in. Overall Size: 20 x 18 in. Unframed. (B17062)

Howard Koslow (American, 1924 - 2016) "St. Augustine Florida Lighthouse" Signed lower left. Acrylic on Illustration Board. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting originally appeared on the Fleetwood First Day Cover for the U.S. 37? Virginia Old Cape Henry Lighthouse stamp issue of June 13, 2003. Lighthouses are sentries to men and women returning home from sea, and the Old Cape Henry Lighthouse was no different. A welcoming beacon to ships for nearly 90 years, the lighthouse stands on the grounds of Fort Story, a U.S. Army base in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Old Cape Henry was the first lighthouse to be authorized by the first United States Congress. John McComb Jr. was the designer who plotted a 90-foot-tall octagonal tower made of brick that became the Old Cape Henry Lighthouse, and in October 1792, its lantern was lit for the first time. This historic lighthouse guided commerce and trade along the Virginia and Maryland coasts for nearly a century, but had to be replaced in 1881. The New Cape Henry Lighthouse stands some 350 feet southeast of the original, which remains the third oldest lighthouse in the United States. Image Size: 14 x 12 in. Overall Size: 20 x 18 in. Unframed. (B17093)

After having been narrowly beaten to the South Pole by Norwegian Roald Amundsen, a party of five would embark on their journey to the safety of Cape Evans. Petty Officer Edgar Evans died from a suspected head injury, whilst Captain Lawrence Oates, having succumbed to severe frostbite and gangrene, walked out of their tent in a brave effort to save the crew. Totally depleted of supplies and energy, it is in this tent, along with Scott and Henry Robertson Bowers, that Wilson would die.Wilson was greatly admired among his party and Scott wrote of him in one of his final diary entries: 'Words must always fail me when I talk of Bill Wilson. Lisa Brice (South African 1968 -) JAMES enamel on canvas laid down on board Accompanied by Lisa Brice by Frank Hanel Gallery catalogue, signed by the artist Lisa Brice, National Book Printers, Cape Town, 1998, illustrated on p40 80 by 80cm Lisa Brice created James in 1990 as part of her Healing body of work produced between 1989 - 1990. The artist was involved in a car accident in 1989 in which a close friend lost her life. It was the artist’s first experience of death in such a violent manner. The traumatic experience caused Brice to create work with an obsessive vigour. Externalising the experience into physical artwork as a means of communicating her ordeal to those close to her and bridging a gap that she believed the incident had caused, resulted in a catharsis for the artist.Brice created a few works for the Healing series in the same square format as James, created with the same materials of enamel on wood. The artist usually scratches the subjects' names into the boards, but the name James is not included in this composition, although it features in the title. James is a colourful piece featuring many of the red hues that the artist favoured during this period of her production, but the subject of the work does not appear to be experiencing pain as her other subjects. The composition consists of a reclining male nude propping himself up his on his elbow. His other arm is stretched above his body with his hands spread wide open, either to welcome the viewer or as a gesture of confrontation. - S.DLisa Brice, National Book Printers, Cape Town, 1998

Eleanor Esmonde-White (South African 1914-2007) TWO FIGURES signed oil on canvas 33,5 by 43,5cm Eleanor Esmonde-White was an accomplished artist. She lectured at the Michaelis School of Fine Art, University of Cape Town and was a memberof the New Group from 1938 to 1954. In her 1977 exhibition at Die Kunskamer the artist included work that she had produced during a visit to theisland of Corfu in Greece. It was in this exhibition that the artist established women, often involved in daily tasks, as her primary subject matter. In 1981 Esmonde-White joined her Greek husband in permanent residence in Corfu, where she observed women in their domestic work, engagingwith each other during their busy day, working the land while their husbands spent time in the Greek cafes.During this time Esmonde-White regularly sent her work back to South Africa where it was exhibited by her three agents, Louis Schachat at DieKunskamer in Cape Town, David Zetler of the Hout Street Gallery in Paarl and Leon Strydom in George, who ensured that her output was enjoyedby a South African audience. Two Figures depicts two women seated on a bench and may very well have been produced during her time in Greece, as the two women bothwear the white headscarves of the women she so often painted. Both women are slouched in their posture, as though they are having a rest duringa busy day of work. The women facing the viewer is composed with her hands clasped in her lap. She looks to the left as if momentarily lost inthought, a quick respite before they tend to the rest of her tasks. Esmonde-White's signature use of black outlines silhouetting the figures and herdeliberate brushstrokes are clearly demonstrated in this work.Raymond, S., Eleanor Esmonde-White, Main Street Publishing, Paarl, 2015
