Possibly from Tall Chagar Bazar.Biblografia: Mallowan M E L 1936a / The excavations at Tall Chagar Bazar,and an archaeological survey of the Harbur regions.Measurements: 12.5 cm (diameter).The Halaf culture (ca. 5500-4600 BC) of northern Mesopotamia, named after the site of Tell Halaf (Syria), developed after the Hassuna culture. It was a society with an agricultural and livestock-raising economy whose most significant material production was pottery. This pottery is characterised by open vessels, some with feet, and bowls with profuse geometric painted decoration, polychromed in the final phase, and some plant and animal motifs. Female statuettes, amulets and clay seals were also produced. The early Halaf phase developed only in the Khabur basin, a tributary of the Euphrates in northern Mesopotamia, but later its pottery has appeared over a wide area from the Mediterranean to the Zagros Mountains in a process linked to extensive obsidian exchange networks.
A MASSIVE CHINESE FAMILLE VERTE BASIN enamelled in polychrome with shaped panels of birds surrounding a jardiniere of flowers, on an iron red ground overpainted with gilt foliage and diaper work, the exterior with conforming foliate panels and the undulating rim with a continuous flowering vine, the unglazed base with an iron red wash and a central circular glazed panel containing the six character Wanli mark enclosed by a double circle in underglaze blue, 64 cm diam.

A John Rose Coalport porcelain tea and coffee servicecirca 1815London shape, decorated with mazarine blue and enamel colours with flowers, the service comprising six teacups, seven coffee cups, six saucers, a teapot, cover and stand, twin-handled sucrier with cover, cream jug, slop basin and pair of plates 21.5cm diameter, unmarked(29 pcs, including covers)Provenance: The Malcolm Sargeant Collection.Teapot- some very good professional restoration to both sides of the lower half of main body of the teapot and to the lower portion of the handle, with repainting and gilding. Difficult to tell what has occurred, possibly to cover large body crack(s). The handle and spout do not appear for have been off the body, however. The cover is undamaged and shows no signs of repair, just some slight rubbing to the gilding.Teapot stand- gilding loss.Sucrier- large crack through base, a secondary small crack to the rim elsewhere and a third hairline to the base together with a hairline to underside of cover.Cups- 1 with crack around lower terminal of handle. Another cup has a faint, short hairline to the body.Where there is rubbing, it mostly restricted to the gilded tendrils on the exterior and some areas of the rims.Several cups with firing cracks around the handle terminals.Cream jug - some heavier rubbing to the gilding on the rim and a couple of scratches through the floral panels.Saucers- some general wear to gilding and a few with fleabites to foot rims. One with a faint hairline to the centre.Plates - 1 is chipped with associated crack and heavily rubbed.Several of the pieces have some quite fine crazing - e.g. a couple of cups, the cream jug.
A Thomas Rose, Coalport part tea/coffee servicecirca 1812pattern 770, of tapered, oval footed shape with London handles, decorated in green and yellow enamels with gilt, the service comprising teapot and cover, teapot stand, twin-handled sucrier and cover, cream jug, slop basin, teacup, coffee cup and saucer, painted pattern numbers(10 pcs including covers)Provenance: The Malcolm Sargeant Collection.Teapot- knop broken and reglued. Y shaped crack to the main body and some fainter stained crazing lines elsewhere. Sucrier - small firing crack near finial knop and three further firing cracks to interior of rim. One handle has been broken and reglued. Some heavier loss of gilded decoration to one side.Teapot stand - some rubbing to gilt leaves and tendrils.Remainder all free from damage or repair. The coffee cup has some noticeable gilding wear to the rim, the saucer has some scratches to the centre well. The slop bowl is quite rubbed to one side and the cream jug again has rubbing to gilding on handle and upper rim.
