A DUTCH SILVER MINIATURE WALL FOUNTAIN indistinctly marked, probably Arnoldus van Geffen (fl. 1728-1769), the basin in the form of a clam shell, height: 10cm, width: 4.6cm, depth: 4cm (68.87 grams). Provenance: Part of the collection (lots 167-231) formed by Baron Michiels van Verduynen (1885-1952), the Dutch ambassador to the Court of St James’(1939-1942). After the collection returned to the family’s residence Huys Clingendael. Thence by descent to the Barons Van Tuyll van Serooskerken.
POLLOCK SINCLAIR NISBET ARSA RSW (SCOTTISH 1848 -1922), LANDSCAPE WITH ROCKY RIVER oil on board, signed 24cm x 16cm Framed and under glass. Note: Pollock Nisbet's commercial success funded extensive travel to Italy, Spain, Morocco and Algeria and he worked in Venice in 1873 and again in the early 1880's, However, his most sought after paintings are the series he completed between 1882 and 1884 of scenes around his home city of Edinburgh. Y A collection of desk items, comprising; a mahogany and leather clad box, late 19th century, the door in the form of four false book bindings enclosing a shelved interior, 30cm high, 26cm wide, 22cm deep, a Victorian rosewood string caddy, 12cm long, a rosewood beaded stationery box, 24cm long, and a Cornish serpentine desk font, 16.5cm highCondition Report: All items in the lot with marks, knocks, scratches, abrasions, consistent with age and use, Book bindings box: Scuffs and some marks, some losses to the lowest edge. Some old splits and cracks to timber. The catch operating at time of report.String box:Revolving freely on the base - possibly too freely, small chips and loss to edge of the cover to the rear, rear removable and screw action holdingStationary box:Overall with signs of wear and use, ring marks and losses to the polish, the underside probably previously with baize or some other lining - this now absent, the interior lined - probably later. No key - the lock open at time of report - the keeper does not appear originalThe font:Signs of adhesive to the tops of the columns and the basin base - probably original, some wax deposits to the interior - may have had a candle fitted at some point. A 19th century Chinese famille rose basin and famille verte bottle vase, tallest 47cm, damageCONDITION: Provenance - Alfred Theodore Arber-Cooke (c.1910-1993); thence by family descent. Arber-Cooke lived in Carmarthenshire, Wales and was an avid collector of European & Asian works of art and an author of the History of Llandovery. He was collecting from the 1940s to the 1980s.
