A CARVED AND PART POLISHED PETRIFIED WOOD SINK OR FOUNTAIN BASE approximately 92cm high, 65cm wide, 46cm deep overall Condition Report: This has been stored outside recently and the overall appearance is consistent with this, there is a drainage hole drilled to the interior of the upper basin, this has drained water into the lower open basin section and left staining - Dreweatts cannot confirm if this has ever actually had pipework fitted, there are no signs of sealant or remnants of fittings. There are natural flaws, fissures, some losses to the surface and athe surface uneven and rough-hewn by-and-large but with polished surfaces where intended for use as a wash-basin or fountain. Cretaceous Period, circa 90 million years B.P.. Comprising a clavicle bone section and a front leg bone section from Deltadromeus agilis. 295 grams total, 86-90 mm (3 3/8 - 3 1/2 in.). Deltadromeus had extraordinarily delicate and long limbs making it one of the fastest dinosaurs to have existed. This meat-eating dinosaur was an early off-shoot of the theropod line on northern continents that gave rise to Tyrannosaurus and the raptor Deinonychus.From Kem-Kem Basin, Morocco. Circa 4th-5th century A.D.. Comprising a shallow bowl fitted with handles and raised foot, the rim engraved with petals. Cf. Walters, H.B., Catalogue of the silver plate (Greek, Etruscan and Roman) in the British Museum, London, 1921, pp.XIX no.4 (shape); plate III, for similar. 39 grams, 95 mm wide (3 3/4 in.). In regards of the shape, Roman silver vessels usually fall into three classes: (1) vessels for eating; (2) vessels for drinking; (3) jugs and saucepans (trullae). The first class includes flat, circular dishes (lances), often of considerable size; the situlae or buckets, and the bowls with projecting rims (our specimen) of various dimensions. The form of the present bowl (probably used for spices, like pepper [piperatoria]) occurs all over the Mediterranean basin, and is Alexandrian in origin.From a North Yorkshire, UK, private collection. Ca. 500 - 300 BCA wheel-thrown pottery krater covered in cream slip atop a natural russet-hued buffwear colour. The sizable vessel has a spherical body with a tapered bottom that rests upon a discoid foot. It has a pair of applied handles on either side of the shoulder, and a short vertical rim surrounding the deep basin. Extensive red/brown stripes course across the body and the shoulder is adorned with a register of olive leaves. Ca. AD 1100 - 1300A Byzantine Sgraffito pottery bowl sitting upon an unglazed high foot with a deep basin, all enveloped in creamy white and emerald green glaze. The exterior of the straight walls are adorned with sgraffito decoration of floral motifs atop a striped ground. Sgraffito was an imitation of the more expensive first type of glazed islamic ceramic production.
