A FINE FAMILLE ROSE PORCELAIN DRAGON AND PHOENIX BASIN Wash basin with flat lobed rim and twelve alternating green/yellow panels of insects and foliage, the well of yellow ground decorated with a flying phoenix and dragon chasing a flaming golden pearl, interior walls of phoenix and peonies on a pink ground, the exterior decorated with various flowers, pheasants and butterflies, underside rim of lime green ground and stylised lotus scrolls, unmarked to the base 41cm diameter Notes: A matching example to the present lot, from the Mariette Collection, currently on display at the Peranakan Museum, Singapore Provenance: From the Penang estate of Syed Sheikh Al-hady (1867-1934), Sayyid Sheikh was an important Malay novelist and scholar. Acquired by a member of the Jamalullail family directly from the Al-hady family. The Al-hady and Jamalullail of Perak are two of the most prominent Jawi Peranakan and Arab Peranakan families in Malaya and Malaysia today. Syed Syakh Al-Hady was a Penang-born writer in 1867. He was the adoptive son of Raja Ali Kelana ibni Raja Muhammad Yusuf Al-Ahmadi of the Riau Sultanate. Founder of the al-Imam, a Jawi-Malay journal published in Singapore, 1906 as well as the Jelutong Press in Penang Alijah Gordon, The Real Cry of Syed Shaykh al-Hady, Malaysian Sociological Research Institute (MSRI), 1999, pg.162-3 Condition: Condition Report There are two spots on the exterior walls where the pink enamel has broken away. A small loss to the pink enamel on the interior at the rim. Some general wear to the base of the interior. Some of the gilding has abraded from the rim. A small filled in/covered spot on the underside of the rim (see additional image). This is an auction of preowned and antique items. Royal Humane Society, small bronze medal (successful) (William H. Domone. 27th. July 1867) with integral bronze riband buckle, in Elkington, London, E.VII.R. embossed case of issue, extremely fine £120-£160 --- Provenance: W. H. Fevyer Collection, Dix Noonan Webb, September 2008. Originally issued a large bronze medal, the E.VII.R. embossed case indicates this medal to be the official small medal later issued as a replacement for wearing R.H.S. Case No. 18,037: ‘At 4.30 p.m. on 27 July 1867 Exeter Basin 14ft water. Matthew John Dunsford aged 10 fell into the water. Wm H Domoné, Warehouseman, 74 High Street, Exeter jumped in and dived for and brought him to walls’. William Henry Domoné was born in Ringwood in 1845. A woollen warehouseman residing in Exeter at the time of the rescue, the R.H.S. Committee meeting minutes of 13 January 1914 confirm the granting of a duplicate medal. He died at Islington, London, on 31 December 1927, aged 81. Sold with copied research.
A 19th century painted metal campaign washstand, with moulded edge and top hinging to a basin. The door with Egyptian style mounts opening to a shelved interior, the whole raised on bun feet. Height 78 cm, width 43 cm, depth 43 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The cabinet is structurally sound with no construction issues. The door is not warped and operates as it should. The handle closes correctly. The Egyptian pilasters appear to be in original condition as far as we can tell. The main body of the cabinet has clearly been repainted at some point. There are some minor traces of rust coming through the paintwork. The interior would appear to be in original condition with some tarnishing and watermarks, etc. The sink has breaks to the front left and right-hand corners, some staining to the ceramic area and scuffs to the enamelled surface.
A Royal Worcester blue and white milk jug, together with a 19th century Worcester butterfly tea service, comprising 13 cups, 16 saucers, 4 sandwich plates and sugar basin. CONDITION REPORT: The non-matching milk jug has a hairline crack running from the top of the handle down into the main body which separates and slightly forks. It runs for +/- 4 cm. The jug is generally discoloured but has no other issues. The matching tea service has no pieces with any restoration. The four large plates are free from damage but all have crazing in varying degrees. Two of the plates have very little crazing but the other two have crazing that is clearly visible on fairly close inspection. The jewelling and painted butterfly panels are all in good order. The sugar basin is in good condition with the exception of crazing towards the upper rim and some rubbing to the gilding. Fifteen of the sixteen saucers are in good order, one has visible crazing. There is some minor rubbing to the gilding. The cups have a few more minor problems. All have some minor rubbing to the gilding. Six are in generally good order with no significant crazing, one is a little discoloured and has visible crazing, another is very slightly discoloured. Four have short hairline cracks which are discoloured and emanating from the top rim, the longest being 1 cm, the shortest .5 cm. The last cup has a small chip to the foot rim. The general appearance of the set is good but note again, all pieces have minor rubbing to the gilding on the extremities.

A blue opaline glass wash basin and jug, mid-19th century, French, the jug with an applied handle, basin 37cm diameter jug 26cm high (2) Condition ReportSome light surface scratches. Chips to the base of the handle where it meets the body. The lower section of the handle has been polished slightly, probably at the manufacturing stage. Slight discolouration to some areas.
