A Regency mahogany washstand, with three-quarter gallery, with lift up top to one side, with aperture for basin and accessories and with dummy drawer beneath, with further drawer flanking and raised on turned legs terminating in brass capped castors and united by a shaped lower shelf. Width 47 ins.
1837 Intended Royal Review of Troops: a rare blue printed pottery wash basin depicting troops in a parkland setting centred by Victoria on horseback entitled ‘Victoria Review’, cracked, 350mm *At the end of July 1837 a royal review in Hyde Park was planned at which the Queen intended to be on horseback. Prime Minister Lord Melbourne thought differently and in endeavouring to exert his authority received the reply ‘no horse, no review’ from Victoria. In the event the review was cancelled. See Victoria Remembered, plate 18 and page 18 for such a commentary.
