ELEANOR RIGBY GRAVE DEEDS, RECEIPT AND MINIATURE BIBLE - incredible piece of history that will be forever linked to The Beatles and one of their most famous songs "Eleanor Rigby". The lot includes a certificate of purchase for grave space at Woolton Parish Church, a receipt for the purchase of the grave and the costs associated along with a miniature bible dated 1899 that Eleanor has clearly written her name in.The grave space to hold 5 adults was purchased on Oct 7th, 1915 by Miss Frances Rigby following the death of her father John Rigby on the 5th October. John and Frances were Eleanor's grandparents and she lived with them throughout her life and stayed in the family home at 8 Vale Road Woolton until she died on the 10th October 1939, aged 44.The inside page of the miniature bible has been dated Feb 1899 and a name has been smudged so in not legible but a capital "E" and "R" are just about legible. On the back inside page the name E.R. Whitfield has been clearly written in pencil. Eleanor was born "Eleanor Rigby Whitfield" in 1895 to her mother, Mary Rigby and father, Arthur Whitfield although sadly her father died in the same year.Provenance: All of the items have been consigned by a member of the Whitfield family who was the nephew of two of Eleanor's half sisters that lived together all of their life and never married. The deeds, receipt and bible were all found when their estate was left to the family and they came to clear their house. An interesting and informative history of Eleanor Rigby can be found here http://www.beatlesliverpoolandmore.com/beatles/eleanor-rigby-the-story-beyond-the-grave .

BEATLES AUTOGRAPHS - superb set of Beatles autographs in a diary from 1963. The signatures are in pencil and were obtained in person by the vendor when she met The Beatles on a train from Darlington to Middlesbrough on the 25th June 1963. This was just days after John Paul VI became Pope and as a comical reference Paul has signed "Paul VI" - interestingly they have also signed "The Beetles". The vendor was working for the GPO in Darlington and was travelling back from work to her home in Middlesbrough when she boarded the train and found all 4 Beatles on board. Both girls obtained their signatures and sat in the same coach with them all the way to Middlesbrough where they were playing that night. The green pocket diary has been signed across 2 pages of the notes page at the back and also includes the vendors GPO work card and provisional licence which she kept there for safekeeping. Authenticated by Roger Epperson for entry to this sale.

Lot 399

BEATLES UNSEEN FILM FOOTAGE FROM FILMING OF HELP! - shot on location by actor Leo McKern whilst filming at Obertauen, Austria during 1965. The 8mm reel of film runs for 14 minutes and 55 seconds and contains some fantastic footage of The Beatles along with various other actors and crew. The footage featuring The Beatles and other cast members runs from 1"45 through to 9"15 with footage of Leo's daughter's playing in the snow before and after.Highlights of the film include snow mobiles carrying The Beatles, stunt scenes, The Beatles fooling around on toboggans, George and John having a comical and unorthodox game of curling, close ups of Paul chatting, smoking and taking photographs together with close ups of all four of The Beatles playing a variety of instruments in the band at the foot of the run (much to their amusement). In addition to the footage of The Beatles there are also excellent shots of other cast members including Eleanor Bron, Victor Spinetti, Roy Kinnear and John Bluthal.Housed in a protective plastic case with the words "Snow Scenes" affixed on a label. PROVENANCE: Australian born actor Leo McKern enjoyed a high-profile stage career in the UK during the 1950s, taking leading roles at both the Old Vic and Stratford's Shakespeare Memorial theatres, as well as playing the Common Man in the first production of A Man For All Seasons in the West End, in 1960. By the time he appeared in the multi-Oscar-winning film version of that play in 1966, McKern's film career had become equally well established, having appeared in, among many others, A Tale Of Two Cities (1958), The Mouse That Roared (1959), King And Country (1964) -- and Help! (1965), the second Beatles film, directed (like the first, A Hard Day's Night (1964)) by Richard Lester. In Help!, McKern was cast as Clang, the leader of a mystical cult determined to recover a ring from Ringo's finger which will enable a sacrifice to proceed. Leo's career further developed in the 70's and 80's with him appearing in a number of films and TV dramas including most notably his long running appearance in Rumpole of The Bailey between 1978 and 1992. Leo died in 2002 at the age of 82 and ownership of the film passed to his daughters, with whom it has remained ever since. This incredible footage is being sold with copyright and the right to use this film commercially will transfer to the new owners upon its sale at auction. The YouTube sample is just a short preview.  The entire film is 14 minutes long.

Lot 400

BEATLES HELP! TRANSPARENCIES - incredible collection of 19 previously unseen and unpublished colour transparencies taken by actor Leo McKern (who starred as Clang), whilst on set with The Beatles during filming for Help! in 1965. Leo was a keen amateur photographer (along with his good friend Peter Sellers) and used high-spec equipment which explains the resulting high quality images. The images themselves were taken at various locations whilst filming Help! including The Bahamas, Obertauern in Austria and Salisbury Plain. There are some absolute gems within the collection with highlights including John Lennon lying on a beach, George Harrison at a press conference and The Beatles on the beach fooling around for the camera. The 19 colour transparencies are in glass holders, housed in a photo rack and box - two of the transparencies have cracked glass although are repairable and do not affect the images. The images are still bright and sharp having been stored very carefully by Leo and his family for the past 53 years. These transparencies are being sold with copyright and the right to exploit these images commercially will transfer to the new owners upon their sale at auction. Provenance: Obtained directly from The Beatles by the vendors father while working as a Police Inspector. After they performed in Hull he escorted them from the venue in a Police van. It was inside the van that he asked for their signatures, which they happy did, using his own Parker ball point, however, John Lennon pocketed it instead than giving it back! The autographs are creased and rubbed because the vendors sister took them to school to show her friends and folded it to get it into her pocket. 1963 Jaguar E-Type 3.8 Coupe- 1 of 1,799 made and supplied new to Ivor Arbiter who designed the 'drop - T' logo for The Beatles- Off the road from 1969 to 2017 and thus believed to have covered just 45,000 miles from new- Matching numbers and exquisitely restored to concours award winning standard by Warren ClassicsOne of the great motoring icons of the last century, Jaguar`s E-type is a car that has always inspired loyalty and devotion. Born out of the fabulous D-type racer, the newcomer soon acquired a strong competition heritage of its own (as witnessed by Briggs Cunningham and Roy Salvadori claiming 4th overall at the 1962 Le Mans 24-hours). Faster and more glamorous than virtually every production rival, its 1961 Geneva Salon launch generated newspaper copy worldwide. In an age when a decent family saloon could call upon its engine for 65bhp, the E-type`s 3781cc, DOHC, straight-six claimed an additional 200bhp. Reputedly capable of 0-60mph in under 7 seconds and 150mph, the Jaguar also possessed excellent roadholding and handling capabilities. While Ferrari`s lauded 250GT SWB and 250 GTO made do with live rear axles and steering boxes, the E-type utilised a sophisticated independent rear set-up with inboard disc brakes and rack and pinion steering. Total right-hand drive, 3.8 litre Fixed Head Coupe production amounted to just 1,799 cars.'815 FYK' was hailed as the 'barn find of the year' when it came to auction in 2016. Headline friendly, the Jaguar had been supplied new via Broadway Autos of Cricklewood to J & I Arbiter Ltd. The owner of Drum City and Sound City, Ivor Arbiter was an important part of London's music scene during the Swinging Sixties and famously designed the 'drop - T' logo for The Beatles (for which he was paid £5!). Mr Arbiter kept the E-Type until November 1965. Thereafter, it passed to S.B. Cain, Howard H Measham and Frank Riches. Period photos show the latter racing the Fixed Head Coupe at Oulton Park, Brands Hatch and Blackbushe from late 1967 until 1969 when its clutch failed. Never returned to the road by Mr Riches, '815 FYK' spent the next forty-six years being stored in a lock-up or under a tarpaulin in his back garden. Attracted by the Jaguar's provenance, undoubted originality and low odometer reading of 44,870 miles (a highly credible figure given its lengthy period of inactivity), Warren Classics paid some £57,900 to acquire it.No stranger to the Jaguar marque, Warren Classics counts several ex-Fullbridge Restoration Company employees among its staff. Stripped to component form, the past year has seen the E-Type exquisitely refurbished to concours award winning condition. Rid of any corrosion, its bodyshell had new metal let-in as appropriate before being carefully, filled, primed and painted. The interior was re-trimmed throughout with the seats receiving new foam inserts as well as new hides. Re-wired, the Fixed Head Coupe also had its steering, suspension and brakes refurbished. Particular attention was paid to the car's panel gaps and its brightwork was rejuvenated. The original 'matching numbers' engine was comprehensively overhauled including a re-bore (0.5mm oversize), cylinder head skim, new water pump, uprated oil pump, fresh 9.1:1 pistons, polished / ported inlets and exhausts, new timing chains and replacement valves / guides / seats / springs etc. Further benefiting from a new in-tank fuel pump, rejuvenated triple SU carburettors and the addition of electronic ignition, the Jaguar has also had its gearbox and back axle overhauled. The instruments were restored and new wire wheels / tyres fitted. Resplendent in its original livery of Carmen Red with Beige leather upholstery, '815 FYK' is described by the vendor as 'surely one of the very best examples anywhere in the world'.
