RTV The Beatles - four signatures on the reverse of a B.O.A.C. Rolls-Royce 707 Jetliner postcard comprising Paul McCartney, Jimmie Nicol, John Lennon and George Harrison. In June 1964 The Beatles were about to embark on a tour which would take in Denmark, The Netherlands, Australia and New Zealand before returning to the UK but a few days before the start of the tour Ringo was rushed to hospital with severe tonsillitis and needed an immediate operation. Cancellation of the tour at this late stage would have caused a great deal of problems so Brian Epstein looked for, found and auditioned another drummer, Jimmie Nicol. Although George Harrison was not happy with the arrangement the tour proceeded with Nicol as their drummer. As soon as Ringo recovered he flew to Melbourne and joined The Beatles who then went on to finish the tour. Nicol only played eight shows and was a Beatle for just thirteen days as he was flown home the very next day after Ringo's arrival in Melbourne. Provenance: the signatures were given to the BOAC pilot who flew the Beatles on the tour. He then passed them on to his friend the Mayor of Chipping Norton, where he lived, and the vendor is the widow of the Mayor. - Condition Report
