Original vintage music advertising poster featuring a colour photograph of the Beatles (John Lennon, George Harrison, Paul McCartney, & Ringo Starr) hanging out by a barn door. The photograph was taken on September 19, 1964, when Brian Epstein celebrated his 30th birthday with the Beatles at the Pigman ranch, Alton, Missouri, during their famous 1964 American tour, before their last concert in New York. The Beatles were an English rock band formed in Liverpool in 1960. With a line-up comprising John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, they are often regarded as the most influential band of all time. The group were integral to the evolution of popular music as an art form and to the development of the counterculture of the 1960s. Rooted in skiffle, beat and 1950s rock and roll, their sound incorporated elements of classical music and traditional pop in innovative ways, and they later explored music styles ranging from ballads and Indian music to psychedelia and hard rock. They also pioneered recording techniques, advanced new methods of artistic presentation, and were commonly viewed as emblems of the era's sociocultural movements. This photograph was shot by Curt Gunther, who had met the Beatles while photographing them in Europe, and was subsequently invited to be their official tour photographer. As such, he traveled and lived with the band throughout the tour, witnessing and documenting all aspects of what is now regarded as nothing less than a global counter-cultural phenomenon. In 1941, Curt Gunther moved to New York City from Berlin, Germany to pursue a career in photography. His career spanned five decades and included his being: Chief Photographer for Keystone Pictures, New York City; the principal owner of a studio, and the creator of the photo agency, Camera 5. While in London photographing The Beatles, he was invited and, of course accepted, an invitation to travel with the fab four and to photograph them on their first American tour. Gunther has photographed celebrities, presidents, major sporting events and everything in between. Fair condition, small cracks, tears and paper losses in margins and corners. Country: UK, year of printing: 1960s, designer: Curt Gunther, size (cm): 84.5x59
