Note: John Byrne was born in Paisley in 1940 and studied at Glasgow School of Art from 1958 to 1963. Since graduating he has made a remarkable contribution to Scottish arts and culture through his varied career as a prolific illustrator, painter, printmaker and writer. In 1967 he had his first successful exhibition in London of faux-naïf images under the pseudonym ‘Patrick’, claiming they were created by his father. He illustrated jackets for Penguin Books and record covers for the Beatles, Billy Connolly and the late Gerry Rafferty.

The Beatles photograph postcard, with Paul McCartney signature to verso. On the 1st of November 1963, The Beatles held a concert at the Gaumont (later the Odeon) in Cheltenham. It was there first concert as headliners and it was after this concert that the media coined the phrase 'Beatlemania'. The vendors mother attended this concert and managed to meet Paul McCartney who signed the back of the postcard.
