PLEASE PLEASE ME - 1ST UK STEREO PRESSING LP (PCS 3042). The ultimate for any serious Beatles fan, a well presented 1st UK 'black and gold' pressing of the iconic debut LP. With Dick James credits for tracks A1, 2, 6, 7, B4 and 6. Matrix/stampers: YEX 94-1 1 G & YEX 95-1 1 R. Side 1 is in Ex condition. There are a few light surface and hairline markings to the glossy playing surface with absolutely nothing heavier than this to note. With a very neat label showing a few spindle markings. Side 2 is in VG+ condition. There is one primarily hairline mark that somewhat 'meanders' between B3 and B7 - at no point does it extend deeper than a surface marking with no feelable scratches to mention whatsoever. The label (ZMT tax code) is in very clean order once again showing little deterioration to the striking colour. The 1st UK (right aligned Angus McBean credit) sleeve is in VG+ condition. A clean front laminated example, there are a couple of creases to the laminate. The reverse flipback design has some minor damage to the bottom left hand side and appears slightly frayed. A fine example.

Lot 7

Lot 72

PLEASE PLEASE ME - 1ST UK BLACK & GOLD STEREO PRESSING LP (PCS 3042) - WITH 2ND MONO SLEEVE. A unique chance for a serious Beatles collector here - a superb condition 1st UK ‘black and gold’ stereo pressing LP housed with a 2nd UK mono sleeve. With Dick James credits for tracks A1, 2, 6, 7, B4 and 6. The record is in stunning Ex+ condition. The playing surfaces contain just a couple of extremely light, faint and wispy markings that are only visible when held to a strong light source. Exquisite, glossy and almost without fault! The labels match the condition of the record with virtually no wear and only a couple of extremely faint and almost impossible to detect spindle markings indicating that the record has only been played a handful of times. The sleeve (2nd UK 'left aligned' Angus McBean credit) is in superlative Ex+ condition - there are just a couple of very light creases to the laminate on the front. The vendor told us that he had bought the record from his local record shop where they kept the records separate to the sleeves, i.e. it was down to the server to match up the record with the correct sleeve - unfortunately they made an error with this copy; perhaps you have the sleeve to make this surely one of the finest examples known to exist?

Lot 120

SELTAEB 10" ACETATES. Extraordainary selection of 5 x Regent Sound Studios 10" acetate recordings. Four years before Apple was founded, plans were being made to set up a Seltaeb label (for which the vendor's stepfather James Hamilton was briefly recruited as a talent scout). These demos are the only known surviving physical manifestations of that label. All the records are single sided 7" recordings cut onto 10" aluminium lacquer discs. These recordings feature Dick Glass singing and playing his guitar. The lot included Cocaine Blues (brilliant Ex+ condition showing little signs of play), You Turn Me On (2 copies both presented in Ex+ condition) and Down On Your Knees (in similar Ex+ condition). All records have 'ANIM Music' hand written on the labels. All housed with very clean Transeco 'A Sound Invenstment' company sleeve and all housed in (crossed out address) Seltaeb envelope. Lyrically speaking, it's extraordinary that these songs were ever considered suitable for a label bearing an association with a band who were still in their clean-cut Fab 4 phase. "You Turn Me On" and "Down On Your Knees" are raunchy enough, but the cover of "Cocaine Blues" by Reverend Gary Davies is startlingly explicit in its drug references. The lyrics are a near total re-write from the original, adding knowing references to amphetamines, marijuana and mescaline for good measure. It makes you wonder what was going on the Beatles camp, even just ahead of the band's first meeting with Bob Dylan (August 1964) which allegedly introduced them to cannabis...
