ART DECO CINEMA LIGHTING, historic set of three chrome and frosted pink lobby wall lights, from the Capitol Cinema in Cardiff, tiered demilune form, 21h x 27w x 18cm deep (3)Comments: Only a few very tiny chips to the back edges of the glass, also some white emulsion paint splashes. Chrome fittings a bit loose and in need of a clean and rewire. Original condition from the cinema.Auctioneers note: The Capitol was an iconic Cardiff establishment which opened on 24th December 1921. Built for an independent operator, it was leased by Paramount in 1931. The building also had a ballroom, three restaurants, a banqueting suite and a snooker room. It was subsequently leased by Odeon Theatres in August 1941 and finally purchased by the Rank Organisation in April 1964. The Capitol Cinema had many famous stars appear on its large stage, including Shirley Bassey, Tom Jones, Bill Haley & The Comets, Danny Kaye, The Bay City Rollers and famously, on 7th November 1964, The Beatles. It finally closed 21st January 1978, and was demolished in February 1983.
