A cut out extract from the ATG with the caddy illustrates a similar example, sold by Sotheby's Pulborough which was signed "N Martin maker, Froxfield, 1793". The design motif of the heart or conjoined hearts at the centre of each panel suggests this may have been gifted as a love token.The design of this caddy is related to the design at Plate 57 of Hepplewhite's "The Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer's Guide of 1794.
