A Victorian blue and white and gilt decorated tea set comprising teapot, sucrier, milk jug, slop bowl, two rectangular plates, twelve large cups, twelve small cups, twelve saucers, six small plates and teapot stand, bearing old auction labels "Sotheby's 6 Mar 1990 312/51", together with two sets of four 19th Century Continental green and gilt banded dessert plates, each decorated with a floral spray / botanical study CONDITION REPORTS Teapot very cracked throughout - see images. Slop bowl, cream jug and sucrier appear basically sound as do the rectangular platters. Saucers appear basically sound. Large cups basically sound with the exception of one with large hairline crack vertically - see image. Small cups basically sound. Six sandwich plates or side plates slightly different in colour i.e. slightly darker owing to the fact that they are later versions of the same pattern by Aynsley with green underglazed printed mark stamped "England" though in good condition - see images for further detail. Otherwise the set has some signs of surface wear and tear and scratching conducive with age and use - see images for further detail

The property of a British Army officer tea / companion set including burner, kettle, tea caddy, butter dish, corkscrew, lighter etc, all housed in a black leather case (37 x 21 x 19cm) initialled to WG, AG 1876 - 1926. This was discovered amongst the possessions of Lt Col CW Grover who was commissioned into the 2nd Battalion The King's Own in 1899 and fought in the Boer War including Spion Kop, Tugela Heights and WW1, where he was wounded at Le Cateau and made POW at the second battle of Ypres. This lot has been consigned by a family member.
