ROBERT RADFORD WELCH (1929-2000), Tea service - the tea pot with hinged domed lid and India rosewood handle, 15.5cm h. 18ozt, with matching milk jug 1976, 6cm h. , 5ozt approx and sugar basket, 9cm h. marks for London 1979, 4ozt approx (3)Welch attended Malvern School of Art and then trained as a silversmith at the Birmingham College of Art under Cyril Shiner and R. G. Baxendale. Between 1952 and 1955 he studied at the Royal College of Art under Professor Robert Goodden.On graduating in 1955, Welch became a product designer and set up a workshop in Chipping Camden, Gloucestershire. The Silk Mill premises he found have been the home of C. R. Ashbee's Guild of Handicraft.
