A collection of Continental, Oriental and English china wares to include a blue and gilt decorated porcelain tea set, a Chinese porcelain plate decorated in the famille-rose palette, and a collection of cups and saucers CONDITION REPORTS The Chinese plate with some wear and frits but generally appears sound. Some wear and scuffs. The Japanese eggshell porcelain cup does not bear any maker's mark but is inscribed "Made in Japan". General wear and frits. The gilt decorated cup with red and gilt borders is also marked "Made in Japan". Other cups with cracks and damage and crazing. Turquoise decorated tea wares - some bear a capital letter A to underside in a triangle. Generally with some wear and scuffs. Some items with some damage but overall condition of turquoise tea wares appears reasonable.
A Hammersley china strawberry set, a Royal Albert "Old Country Roses" pattern sandwich tray, a Richard Ginori part tea set, various meat plates and a box of china wares to include a Mason's tea caddy, a Prattware pot lid, various china wares, etc CONDITION REPORTS All in used and worn condition and some items with chips and damage including pot lid extremely broken and re-glued. Generally however, condition appears reasonable. Lid missing to the gilt decorated sucrier.
Shaw (Robert). Visits to High Tartary, Yarkand and Kashghar (Formerly Chinese Tartary) and Return Journey over the Karakoram Pass, 1st. ed., pub. John Murray, 1871 lacking half-title?, four litho. plts. and two folding maps (complete as list), wood engraved illusts. throughout, 16 pp. publishers catalogue bound in at rear, ink library stamp on verso of title, cancelled library label to front pastedown, hinges cracked, pubs. dec. gilt cloth, upper joint partially split, a little worn at extrems., 8vo. Educated at Marlborough and Cambridge, Shaw settled in the Himalayas as a tea planter. Eager for adventure he decided to explore the country north of the Karakoram and set off in May 1868 for Eastern Turkestan, reaching Yarkand on 8 December and Kashgar on 11 January 1869. He became the first Englishman to visit these parts and would later return to the area to assist in establishing political treaties with the British. (1)
