A silver four piece tea and coffee service by Robert Welch, London 1974-75, of tapered oblong form with conforming demi oblong handles, the tea and coffee pots with rim-to-rim domed covers, the coffee pot 22.5cm (9.75in) high, 1787g (57.25 oz) gross. #As with many of Robert Welch's silver pieces, this set is a reworking of elements from earlier pieces. In 1968 he designed the 'JB' tea service for J. B. Priestley to harmonise with a fine Georgian coffee pot which he owned. In 1995 he designed a coffee pot for the collection at Cheltenham Museum (inv. no. 1997.40), again revisiting the design elements in the present lot and the 'JB' service. See Coatts, M.
