A large Chinese Kangxi clobbered baluster jar and cover painted with blue flowers and leaves on a red ground, blue painted double ring and leaf mark to base, on an associated 19th century hardwood stand, height of vase 42cm, overall height 56.5cm. CONDITION REPORT: Two rim chips to the lid, now clearly gilded. Some fritting to the lid rim otherwise appears good with no further obvious faults, damage or restoration..

A late 18th/early 19th century Chinese porcelain plate, painted in underglaze blue with four warriors fighting, within a band of bats on scroll ground, bearing Kangxi four character mark to base, diameter 19.5cm. CONDITION REPORT: There is a chip to the rim and a hairline spreading from it and three other areas of hairlines.
A near pair of 19th century Chinese vases and covers, painted in underglaze blue with two opposing panels depicting battle scenes on a scroll ground within floral bands, with dog of Fo finials, each bearing Kangxi four character mark to base, height 32cm and 33cm (af). CONDITION REPORT: One of the vases has a crudely reglued area to the neck, approx 3cm of losses to the rim. The other vase has a hairline spreading from the rim and an area of firing imperfection, one area of fritting to the rim and some small nibbles to the base and chips to rims of the covers.

A pair of early 19th century Chinese yellow glazed porcelain bowls painted in green enamels with two five clawed dragons chasing the pearl of wisdom amongst clouds and with decorative border to the outside, centred with a character mark to the inside, both bearing six character marks to bases, diameter 10.5cm (one af). CONDITION REPORT: One bowl has a chip to the inside of the upper rim and two areas of major linear firing imperfections to the central section of the main body. Both bowls with traces of surface wear and dirt throughout commensurate with age and usage, also manor areas of firing pitting.The bowls have differing marks - they appear to be Kangxi and Xianfeng.
A late 18th/early 19th century Chinese circular punch bowl painted in underglaze blue with architectural river landscape to the centre and to the outside, within two decorative bands, bearing Kangxi four character mark to base, diameter 37cm (af). CONDITION REPORT: Part of the bowl (approx 1/3) has been broken off and reglued, with two hairlines spreading from the rim, general surface dirt and some wear commensurate with age.
A pair of late 19th century Chinese baluster vases painted in underglaze blue with large jars and covers on stands flanked by two men to both sides on blossoming branch ground, within two ornamental borders and with dog of Fo finials to the covers, (both af), bearing Kangxi four character mark to base, height 27.5cm. CONDITION REPORT: One finial has been broken off with traces of previous regluing, the other has a loss to the head, same cover with a chip to the side. Some fritting to the edges of the vase and one cover.

A LARGE AND IMPOSING PAIR OF CHINESE FAMILLE VERTE BUDDHIST LION DOGS KANGXI 1662-1722 Powerfully modelled with their heads turned sideways and looking down, the female with her puppy climbing up her front paw, the male with an articulated brocade ball, each raised on a high rectangular plinth and decorated with green, yellow and aubergine enamels on a biscuit porcelain ground, 33cm. Qing Shunzhi Kangxi Chao Qinghua Ci, pp.476-477, nos.307 and 308 and also C Jörg, Chinese Ceramics in the Collection of the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, p.98 no.88 for similar vases.
A CHINESE FAMILLE VERTE DOUBLE-SIDED TILE KANGXI 1662-1722 Painted to one side with a scene from the Romance of the Western Chamber, depicting Cui Yingying and Hong Niang listening to Zhang Gong playing a qin, the reverse with figures in the Kunlun mountains, mounted in a later hardwood frame as a table screen, 26cm x 18cm. A CHINESE PORCELAIN INCENSE STICK HOLDER PROBABLY LATE QING Moulded in relief with boys and water buffaloes in a rocky river landscape and with a four character inscription, the base inscribed Dao guang si you chen guo zhi zuo, together with a small blue and white seal paste box and cover decorated with a figure in a mountainous landscape, the base with a six character Kangxi mark, 11.6cm max. A CHINESE BLUE AND WHITE BAXIAN INCENSE BURNER KANGXI 1662-1722 The cylindrical body painted with a continuous scene of the Eight Immortals celebrating Shoulao's birthday, all with their various attributes, Shoulao sits on a rock with an attendant and a deer, all between chevron borders and raised on three rectangular feet, a reticulated wood stand, 19.8cm. (2) Provenance: a Scottish private collection. Cf. M Butler and Wang Qingzheng, Seventeenth Century Jingdezhen Porcelain from the Shanghai Museum and the Butler Collections, p.64 and 65 for another blue and white 'Eight Immortals' incense burner.

λ A CHINESE FAMILLE VERTE EWER AND COVER KANGXI 1662-1722 The pear-shaped body decorated with roundels of prunus and other stylised plants on the handle, neck and spout, with an associated stained ivory cover, 17cm. (2) Provenance: a British private collection, purchased by Philip Morrell from Bluett & Sons, London, 29th July 1942 for £8. The original invoice is available.
A MASSIVE CHINESE FAMILLE ROSE DISH LATE QING DYNASTY / REPUBLIC PERIOD Painted on the interior with two intertwining prunus branches which extend from the reverse, one branch with white flowers with a greeny-yellow tinge, the other branch with flowers with a pink tinge, two large lingzhi sprays sprout from the base of one branch and are balanced by a flowering peony to the left, the reverse with an apocryphal six character Yongzheng mark, 52.8cm. Provenance: from the estate of Mr Klaus Henrich, purchased in the 1970s. Cf. Kangxi, Yongzheng, Qianlong, Qing Porcelain from the Palace Museum Collection, p.222 no.51 for the Yongzheng prototype of this dish.

A turquoise-blue monochrome, Chinese vase; together with a small saucer dish, 12.5cm diameter, with Daoguang mark but not of the period; and two famille rose tea bowls and saucers (6)Provenance: The Property of a Gentleman. The saucer dish with the Daoguang mark here apparently portrays four of the famous heroes from Classical China (The Wu Shuang Pu) by Jin Gulian in a compilation that first appeared during the Kangxi era in 1694. Of course, both the iconography and colouring of each hero or heroine has been subject to some change, but the four paragons illustrated here may be Chen Tuan, the 9th Century Daoist, Chen Dong (1086-1127) presenting his petition to the Emperor, Qian Liu (852-932) and Cao E, the Han Dynasty heroine. Chen Dong was active in the resistance against those appeasing the invasion by the Jurchen Tartars, an opposition that even questioned the legitimacy and mandate of the Song Emperor, Gaozong Condition Report Please note that this is a group lot where condition may vary from object to object; some areas of damage, chipping and/or cracking are extant.
