A very rare Dutch Delft yellow ground 'Sample' or 'Hundred antiquities' plate, 18th C.Dia.: 22,5 cm It is generally believed that plaques or dishes with 'sample' (monster) design were used by workshops as advertisements for the goods they manufactured or wished to sell. Unfortunately it has not yet been possible to back this up with evidence from workshop archives. Another source for these 'sample' plaques and dishes could be Chinese porcelain with 'Hundred Antiquities' design, where various stylised objects are painted on a plain background. A dish in the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam (inv.no. BK-NM-12400-194) shows the same central garniture as the present lot, this time surrounded by a variety of objects which could not have been produced by a Delft potter; a mirror, a chair, a dog and a cat, a wooden basket, a cradle etc The dish here offered is decorated with five medallions enclosing Chinese figures, which is also not really a subject for 'sample' decoration. Another link to a Chinese source is the yellow ground, which reminds us of Kangxi examples (see M.S. van Aken-Fehmers, Delfts Aardewerk, Geschiedenis van een nationaal product, Zwolle, 1999, pp. 148-149, cat. n°. 55 and fig. 1/2 and frontcover). Ref.: - Christies, Amsterdam, 'The Dr. Anton C.R. Dreesmann Collection', April 16 2002, lot 1292, for an identical example, attributed to the 'De Grieksche A' workshop, sold €28.200 .

Buddha. Holz mit vergoldeter Lackfassung. 18. Jahrhundert in Nord-China sehr populär.

Chinese artisans perfected pink enamel by grinding ruby glass and dispersing it in a clear, colourless enamel making it easier to apply the enamel evenly on a surface and achieving an even tone in the firing. Few ruby-glazed and ruby-backed dishes and cups made under the Kangxi emperor survive, and the pink colour and glaze was perfected under the Yongzheng emperor (1722-1735) quickly gaining in popularity.Ruby-backed porcelains with Qianlong marks are rare. It appears that only one other ruby-backed famille rose dish decorated with a European subject and inscribed with a Qianlong seal mark is known, formerly in the collection of E.T.Chow, sold Christie's Hong Kong, 31 May 2017, lot 3029.For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

Type: Chinese Famille Verte Fish Bowl or Jardiniere Dimensions: 20 cm height, 26 cm diameter at the top Design Details: This piece is richly decorated with intricate hand-painted patterns in the Famille Verte style, featuring a phoenix in flight surrounded by lush florals and foliage. The colorful palette includes greens, pinks, yellows, and blues, characteristic of the Famille Verte tradition, which emphasizes detailed enamel painting over a white porcelain base. Symbolism: The phoenix is a symbol of grace, virtue, and renewal in Chinese culture, while the floral motifs add to the sense of prosperity and beauty. Style: Famille Verte porcelain originated during the Qing Dynasty, particularly under the Kangxi reign (1661–1722). The style is recognizable for its green-dominant color palette and detailed narrative or naturalistic imagery. This piece is likely a 20th-century interpretation of this iconic design. Markings: The underside bears red Chinese character markings, possibly indicative of a 20th-century workshop or reproduction inspired by earlier Qing-era designs. This elegant fish bowl or jardiniere, with its vivid colors and cultural symbolism, is ideal for collectors of Oriental porcelain or as a decorative statement piece in both modern and traditional interiors.
