Jiang Qianli was a renowned craftsman specialising in inlaid lacquer. Although he was traditionally thought to have lived during the late Ming period, recent scholarship placed him a little later in the Kangxi period; see G.Tsang and H.Moss, Arts from the Scholar's Studio, Hong Kong, 1986, no.144.Compare with a similar example in the British Museum, no. 1974,0226.70.a, illustrated by Sir Harry Garner, Chinese Lacquer, London, 1979, pl.197.
