[Fine Irish binding] The Rev Archdeacon Conway Benning, 1770. 'The Charter-Party, of the Amicable Annuity-Company of the Town of Newry, in the County of Downe' Stunning full crimson morocco, with elaborate gold tooled borders of leaves and acorns, with vines protruding from each corner, dark blue morocco and gilt title tile to front and rear boards reads 'Amicle Anny Compy Revd Archdn Benning, 1st August, 1770', the spine in panels with same motif, an extremely handsome binding indeed, ex libris label for Samuel Allen, an unusual text block with titlepage present but cut completely, first eight leaves have been cut out and are missing with paignation running true from 9 to 44, followed by hand signed acknowledgment by the register and committee of said company, thirty seven plain leaves to verso, gilt edge, vg to fine condition (apart from missing leaves!), printed for Thomas Stewart, Dublin, 1770. Rules and procedures for members of the company, which was an early insurance company for the town of Newry.

A group of eight various Islamic tiles, 13th century and later, including a large turquoise glazed faience tile, possibly Seljuk, Kashan 13th century with foliate decoration in relief, together with others including smaller relief moulded Ghazanavid style and other tiles. 24cm wide x 16cm high the primary item and seven other examples.Our client's Grandfather started the collection: Joseph Duncan Steel born in Southampton in 1910, he was a son of a White Star Line Captain. Engineer by trade hence his love of things well made but poet and historian by nature with an endless curiosity, all qualities which led to his passion for collecting in the 1950/60s, including the family car - a 1936 Rolls Royce! Father: Roberto Gnisci, born in Rome in 1942, was an engineer by profession, but purchased his first Roman coin at the age of 8 and continued to pursue his passion for collecting antiquities throughout his life, especially between 1970s to late 1990s.
