A pair of late 19th/early 20th century rectangular tiles of a hunter and a fisherman seated in a wooded area by a lake, framed, overall height 34cmCondition report: Heavy crazing to both tiles. One tile with two chips to right side edge, some slight nibbling to corners.Second tile with chips to both right and left edges on reverse, chip to right hand side upper and lower corners.
A collection of sixteen 18th century and later tin glazed tiles to include three manganese geometric examples, some blue and white Dutch Delft to include three examples of scenes within circular panels depicting travellers, huntsmen, etc, three tiles with similar corner painted brackets, one depicting baker, a cherub with trident and a possible fisherman with his catch and three with central floral decoration within a cartouche panel and painted floral corners (16). CONDITION REPORT Each tile has a fault, either it has been broken in places, there are obvious cracks or chipping to the corners. Some tiles are fragments and some tiles show old repairs.
A 19TH CENTURY MAHOGANY CASED APOTHECARY CABINETWith extensive fitted interior, 27cm wide; 31cm highCondition report: Various light marks, scuffs and wear commensurate with age, however, mahogany is overall in relatively good ‘untouched’ condition. Tarnishing/oxidisation to metal work: escutcheon and carrying handles. The lid is very slightly lifting to one side. No key and lock plate loose, requiring fixing back into position. Veneer section to the front edge loose and present with lot. The top hinged lid opens to reveal: Four glass bottles with gilt brass lids, one of which has completely tarnished and lost it’s gilding and wax sealed cork lining and now loose on the glass bottle. Lift out tray with slide lidded compartment to the sideGlazed ceramic tileSoftwood cased glass syringe (internal edge of case worn with loss)Metal cased candle holder - with candle, stamped to underside ‘PATENT APPLIED FOR’ A ceramic oval shaped bowl on raised foot.Front door opening and closing only when lid open to reveal: Seven compartments, six bottles with glass stoppers, various chips and wear. Labelled drawers (one missing ring pull handle top right), including the top tier containing sliding lid compartments, the second row enclosing a glass mixing bowl but no pestle; four glass vials with contents, three of which with marble paper covered stoppers and three various wood containers, the bottom row enclosing eight apertures with six glass mixing bowls.The reverse door opening and closing when lid is open to reveal: Eight compartments with only seven glass bottles with stoppers present. TWO QAJAR POLYCHROME MOULDED TILES 19TH CENTURY The larger tile decorated with a figure carrying a child and a parasol whilst riding on horseback, the smaller depicting a mounted archer beneath a pair of birds perched on scrolling branches, with buildings and flowers distributed throughout the scenes, 31.5cm x 24.5cm and 21.8cm x 14.9cm. A LARGE AND IMPRESSIVE JAPANESE BRONZE ROOF TILE MODELLED AS A SHACHIHOKO PLEASE NOTE THIS LOT IS INSCRIBED YOSHITAKE ZO (MADE BY YOSHITAKE) 美武造EDO PERIOD, LATE 18TH OR 19TH CENTURY The massive dragon-fish depicted with its tail pointing upwards towards the sky, its dragon head with bushy eyebrows and long whiskers, the carp-like body modelled with four large pectoral fins and crisp scales, a spiny dorsal fin and with a flared tail, with remnants of gilt, 160cm. Provenance: formerly an American private collection. The dragon-fish was displayed on the roof of a large mansion in Rhode Island, New England. Shachihoko are sea monsters believed to cause rain. They are often used as ornaments on Japanese rooftops to protect buildings against fire.
A JAPANESE BRONZE OKIMONO OF A DOVE ON A ROOF TILE MEIJI PERIOD, 19TH CENTURY The bird perched on an oni-gawara, a traditional roof tile of cylindrical shape with a demon-shaped finial, the grimacing figure with sharp fangs and short horns, the back with ivy leaves and tendrils and with mitsudomoe comma-like swirl symbols to the side, 14.3cm.
