Four volumes, 12 ° (140x75mm). XXIV, 441, [3]; XXXVIII, 462, [2]; XXIV, 444; XXIV, 468 pages. Woodcut frieze on the title pages, woodcut headpieces. Foxing and a few marginal waterstains on some leaves. Contemporary half leather, marbled paper on the covers, friezes and gilt titles on labels on the spines, light blue sprinkled edges. Abrasions at the edges of the covers. At the front pastedowns ex-libris 'Biblioteca Palazzi'.ADDING: Passeroni Giancarlo. Il Cicerone, poema... In Bassano: a spese Remondini di Venezia, 1775. Six volumes, 12° (150x85 mm). 440; [4], 444; 470 pages, wanting the last blank; 480; 475, [1]; 494, wanting the last blank. Woodcut friezes at the tile pages, woodcut tailpieces. Sporadic very slight foxing or minimal waterstains on a few leaves. Contemporary half leather, marbled paper on the covers, gilt titles on the spine, light blue speckled edges. Abrasions at the edges of the covers. At the front pastedown ex-libris 'Biblioteca Palazzi' which partly covers a previous handwritten annotation. I work: Edition curated by Piero Antonio Serassi, whose name derives from the dedication in Tomo I, of the poem by Bernardo Tasso, Torquato's father, inspired by the Spanish novel Amadigi di Gaula where are described Prince Amadigi's adventures and love story. Compared to the original, Tasso makes some changes including the introduction of new characters - such as Floridante - according to the entrelacement technique. This work, consisting of 100 songs of about 80 octaves, had good publishing fortune, despite the poor appreciation by the Accademia dela Crusca. Torquato Tasso himself defended his father's work in his Apology in defense of Gerusalemme Liberata, considering it on the same level as Orlando Furioso. II work: Remondini edition of this long poem, printed the year after the first edition of the last part; the work had a long gestation and was printed at different times: the first part appeared in Milan in 1755, the last in 1774. Cicerone, apparently a great Latin poet biography, actually includes long satirical and ironic digressions on the misconduct during the eighteenth-century.
