A CHINESE FRAMED PORCELAIN TILE, 19TH CENTURY. Finely painted with scene of the Eight Immortals in mountain courtyard with crashing waves and building raising from clouds. Mounted in a later carved wood frame with bronze handle. 51.5cm x 38.5cmPorcelain in good condition without signs of damage or repair. Overall good condition with general surface wear to frame.

A tile panel on his grave at Barnoon Cemetery by Bernard Leach read "He went through life with outstretched hand of help."
A circa 1950 Poole pottery tile coffee table inset with fifteen tiles with tapering legs and brass feet, height 35cm width 79cm depth 48cm.The tile with two pigeons and the tile next to it in the right hand corner have been repaired/glued with small losses, there is some superficial staining dirt etc to the tiles there is wear to the frame and legs. A documentary Maw & Co moulded tile, dated 1872, of Sarpedon, modelled by Reginald Palgrave after the bas relief by Musgrave Lewthwaite Watson (1804-1847) in light grey majolica glaze, 17 x 24cm, impressed Maw & Co, inscribed in ink "Grace Palgrave from her affectionate husband the modeller... May 1872" and two Maw & Co email ombrant tiles (3) Sir Reginald Francis Douce Palgrave (1829-1904) Clerk of the House of Commons was the son of Sir Francis Palgrave and his wife Elizabeth, daughter of the banker and antiquary Dawson Turner FRS, FSA. Palgrave was a keen watercolourist and "...for an amateur an exceptionally skilful modeller in low relief" (source: DNB). He married, in 1857, Grace Battley. Palgrave was a cousin of Sir Joseph Dalton Hooker, for whom he modelled memorial tablets to Hooker's father, Sir William Jackson Hooker (1785-1865) and wife Francis (d.1874) Sarpedon tile - slight graze upper right corner
