A Victorian Oak Campaign twelve place canteen of silver cutlery including, a four piece tea and coffee service, a waiter and toast rack, all pieces, except knives, made by Stephen Smith and mostly hallmarked London 1882, the coffee pot being dated 1879, the sugar bowl and teapot dated 1881 (cream jug marks rubbed). The twenty-four silver handled knives are hallmarked Sheffield 1989, maker C.J. Vander The Victorian cutlery includes a soup ladle, two gravy/basting spoons, two sauce ladles, a pierced fish slice and fork etc, the waiter has a central engraved foliate pattern and vacant cartouche. An early Victorian Officer's dirk to the 71st Highland Light Infantry, 35.5cm blade by Meyer & Mortimer of Edinburgh well etched with Battle Honours to Waterloo on a ground of thistles, further etched with regimental devices and title, VR cypher and a stand of arms, faceted back edge engraved J Sellers Makers, gilt mounted carved wooden hilt of characteristic form, decorated with carved basket weave set with polished studs, the mounts cast with thistles and the pommel set with a faceted stone, contained in its gilt mounted leather scabbard decorated to match and set with the regimental motif to the locket, horn lacking, complete with companion knife and fork. The lack of the Sebastopol Battle Honour dates this to pre-1854.
A 19th Century silver plated Scottish dirk by Hodge of Aberdeen and Inverness, 31cm fullered blade with faceted back edge and dual edged tip, stamped HODGE ABERDEEN at the mid-section of the blade and HODGE INVERNESS at the forte characteristic wooden hilt carved with a basket weave finish and set with polished studs, flattened plated pommel cap with central dome, contained in its silver plated mounted leather scabbard, complete with companion knife and fork. Scabbard leather worn.
