A beautiful Two Ronnies ' Fork Handles ' limited edition signed print. Produced by The Original Memorabilia Company, the print is hand signed by Ronnie Barker and Ronnie Corbett to the upper portion in black marker. This edition being No. 1 out of 950. No. 1 was only ever made available when the infamous ' Fork Handles ' Ronnie Barker handwritten script (see lot 300 in this auction) went up for sale. Prior to this it was kept by The Original Memorabilia Company in their offices. The print depicts the version of the ' Fork Handles ' sketch as performed at The London Palladium, showing both Ronnies in character. Beneath the large colour lithograph image is the script for the sketch - this version having the reworked ending that Ronnie B wrote for the stage show. In many interviews before his death, Barker explained that he was never happy with the original 'Billhooks' ending to the TV version, so rewrote the ending to incorporate a buxom shop assistant who comes in at the end and asks 'Right Sir, what sort of knockers are you looking for?' The hand signed autographed print comes with the original Certificate of Authenticity - which shows Barker & Corbett signing. Professionally framed and glazed (perspex) to a total size of; 72cm x 56cm.
An iconic piece of British comedy history; Ronnie Barker's original hand written script for the iconic ' Fork Handles ' or ' Annie Finkhouse ' Two Ronnies sketch. Written over four lined sheets, in red ink by Barker - he has added his pseudonym ' G. Wiley ' (Gerald Wiley) as the author of the sketch. Neatly stapled to the top right corner. At certain moments in the script, Ronnie Barker has added notes to aid production such as 'Please Discuss,' and certain parts of the television recording do not follow the script exactly (particularly around the discussion of 'Letter O's') - exactly as you would expect from a draft script. Famously discovered on an episode of Antiques Roadshow in 2006 by memorabilia expert Mark Allum, the script then made its way to Ronnie Corbett who authenticated the handwriting as that of Barkers. The sketch is frequently found on ‘best ever’ lists, was crowned funniest comedy moment of the 1970's on UKTV and finished fifth in Channel 4’s ' Fifty Greatest Comedy Sketches ' countdown in 2005. First aired in September 1976, the sketch is famous for its use of wordplay - the title itself ' Annie Finkhouse ' being a play on ' Anything Else?'. Ronnie Corbett once explained how the sketch was based on a real life situation between a customer and a hardware shop owner, who then wrote to Barker to tell of their comical story, and from 'that germ of an idea' Barker wrote the sketch. This handwritten script features the original ending to the sketch - as was recorded during the show - but Barker famously disliked the ending and reworked it for their live Stage Show where, instead of 'Mr Jones' entering and revealing a sign for 'Billhooks', a rather buxom woman enters and asks the customer 'What sort of knockers are you looking for?' Ronnie Barker famously used several pseudonyms during his writing for The Two Ronnies, with Gerald Wiley being his most famous. It was important to Barker for sketches to be judged on their merit, rather than who had written them, as he wanted to keep the quality of The Two Ronnies high. Of the Gerald Wiley sketches, ' Annie Finkhouse ' is the most famous. Presumably this is Ronnie's handwritten final draft that would've been submitted to his agent - who in turn would've had it typed, and submitted to the producers of The Two Ronnies (to avoid suspicion that Wiley was Barker), and likely handed the original back to Barker - who, in later years, often gave scripts and memorabilia away to fans for Charity auctions or similar. Accompanying the script is a certificate of authenticity from The Original Memorabilia Company, and a copy of a 2007 Antiques Roadshow ' Retrospective ' episode on DVD which features the scripts discovery, and Ronnie Corbett handling and talking about the item. The sketch, as penned by Barker, can be viewed here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=gi_6SaqVQSw
