Rare and fine mid-Victorian Officers' dress dirk of 74th Highlanders, with glass stone inset to pommel (chipped), ormolu mounts with regimental badge, Cross of St. Andrew, 'Assaye' and elephant battle honour and '74', with subsidiary knife and fork, a fine blade, signed 'Wilkinson, Pall Mall London' - retaining most original polish, etched with crowned VR, Regimental badge, family crest and 'Assaye' and elephant battle honour, the reverse with trophy of arms and twelve other battle honours - contained in its original japanned tin box. Sold with copy of letter from The National Army Museum, dated 1972 - belonged to Lt. Colonel George W. Fordyce 74th Highlanders (joined 1832 - retired 1852). Early English George II painted wooden doll, English circa 1760, the gesso covered head with carved nose and black glass pupil-less eyes with finely painted dots for eyelashes and brows, painted mouth and rouged cheeks, brown hair and elongated neck to carved wooden torso with cloth upper arms and carved wooden fork hands, legs replaced, wearing a later patterned cotton dress, underclothes, and original lace cap, (right hand lacks all fingers, some marks to head, legs new), 19 ¼ “ (49cm) tall.
