An Edwardain oak cased aneroid barometer, the 19cm circular white dial inscribed Lancaster and Thorpe, Derby, mercury thermometer, the case carved with swags and leaves, 91cm high, c.1905. Alderman Bertram Samuel Thorpe (1879-1946) and Frederick William Lancaster of 21, Derwent Street, Derby worked in partnership from 1904 initially from 90 St. Peter's Street. Thorpe himself was a Derby Councillor 1923-1945 and served as Mayor of Derby in 1934-35. This instrument dates from their early (1904-14) period.

A fine mid 19th century rosewood mercury marine stick barometer, with cavetto moulded caddy pediment and moulded cornice over brass edged bowfronted glazed ivory backed scale calibrated in inches with vernier and signed 'Moon from Dollond, Minories, London' within geometric borders, the throat with ivory adjustment disc over spiral turned shaft mounted with glazed mercury thermometer and pivoted gimbals, the base with gadroon carved collar over cylindrical brass cistern, 91cm high.
