Erste deutsche Ausgabe der zuvor auf Englisch erschienenen Abhandlung Herschels, in der er seine Entdeckung der Infrarot-Strahlung veröffentlichte. - Nicht bei La Lande. - DSB 6, 333. - Herschel hatte geschwärzte Thermometer in und neben das sichtbare Spektrum eines durch ein Prisma zerlegten Sonnenstrahles positioniert, um die Energieverteilung des Lichtes über die Breite des Spektrums zu messen. Zu seiner Überraschung stellte er fest, dass der Temperaturanstieg im nicht sichtbaren Bereich unterhalb des roten Lichtes am höchsten war. - Vord. fl. Vorsatz fehlt, Innendeckel mit Besitzervermerk, Titel mit Bibliotheksstempel, Tafeln an den Rändern z.T. angeknickt, eine der gefalt. Tafeln mit Einriss (ca. 6,5 cm), etwas gebräunt u. braunfleckig, sonst insgesamt wohlerhalten. Astronomy - Physics. - First German edition of the important tract on infrared radiation. - Some dampstaining at end, upper margin somewhat cut in margins.
