Josiah Wedgwood and the Thermometer Science – Josiah Wedgwood three rare printed scientific papers by Wedgwood discussing the development of thermometers for dealing with high heat – each extracted from the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society and dated 1782^ 1784 & 1786 respectively. 4to^ 22^ 27 & 19pp respectively with 3 folding plates. Unbound. Wedgwood’s discussions on the development of thermometers was of practical concern as before 1782 there was no method for measuring accurately the heat of a pottery over beyond the temperature of about 360 degrees C. These papers represent the culmination of his personal work in developing a more accurate system of gauging temperature – which led him to be elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society. Rare.
A Victorian stick barometer, with thermometer, signed Yeates & Son, Dublin, in a carved oak case, 104 cm high Condition report Report by RB Both bevelled glass panels in good condition, the ivory register chipped to the right of the tube at the top, and is now lodged in the lower left hand corner, there is mercury in the tube although we cannot guarantee it works, there is possibly a moulding missing to the arched top, which I suspect may have been glued as there is a difference in colour and I can see no sign of any pinholes. From a local private client this is in a market fresh condition

Moulding to swan neck restored and with chips and damage. Please view additional images (upon request). Silvered main dial rubbed to the sides, well cap loose, mercury plug/screw is loose too.
