A late 19th century ivory mercury thermometer of plain tapering form, on carved black slate cylindrical base, height 24.5cm. CONDITION REPORT: General surface dirt and minor wear, some staining to ivory, a few areas of scratches and a couple of natural splits, particularly to the base of ivory part, the ivory body has been reglued to the base with crude traces of glue, several chips to the base including two to the edge.
^Ethiopian Sword Shotel, fitted with a large one piece carved rhinoceros horn hilt (pommel chipped) surmounted by an Italian Bvono da Lira 2 coin dated 1924, curved single edge fullered blade etched with foliage, Amharic inscriptions, and maker’s mark G.G. with thermometer, in its original leather scabbard with belt. Blade 81cms. Good condition.Please note this lot requires a CITES license to be exported outside of the EU
A mahogany wheel barometer, signed Pozzi & Co, circa 1820, broken arched pediment, hygrometer, thermometer tube, 10-inch silvered dial, spirit level dial signed, 107cm high28.09.17, Pediment with minor chips and small chips to the edges around the case, sides with small parts of veneer lifting, silvered dials are slightly discoloured, mercury tube is full and in good condition.
Fine mid 19th century English repeating carriage clock of exhibition quality by Thomas Cole, the double fusee movement signed Arnold, Charles Frodsham, Strand, London, no. 857, the silver engraved foliate dial with Roman numerals signed 'Charles Frodsham, 84 Strand, London, 859', the platform lever escapement with a bi-metal compensation balance, the back plate with a silvered seconds dial and hammers striking on a gong, within a fine engraved foliate and cast gilt brass case with presentation inscription 'To the Rev'd. Henry Eley M.A.F.G.S. from the Parishioners on his resigning the vicarage of Broomfield, Essex, April 11th, 1861', bevelled glazed silvered side panels inset with a scaled thermometer and opposing manual calendar, hinged back door, 6.75" high to include the handle Reference Upon the death of John Roger Arnold, Charles Frodsham purchased the whole of the Arnold business, and moved his business and family into the former Arnold premises at 84 Strand in 1844. Attractive small black slate triple dial two train mantel clock, the Japy Freres movement stamped R & C, Paris & London on the back plate, striking on a bell, the 3.25" white dial over subsidiary thermometer and barometer dials, within a wavy shaped case sgraffito with gilt scrolling foliage, 9.25" high
