An Edwardian oak cased scientific/industrial stick barometer, segmental top, bevelled glass to scale, mercury thermometer scaled absolute/centigrade, millibar scale, signed Pastorelli & Rapkin Ltd/46, Hatton Garden/London, turned circular reservoir cover, bone adjuster, 90cm high.This important and prolific maker was founded by N Italian migrant Antonio Pastorelli in the 1820s, who was followed by his son Fortunato; a grandson Joseph later entered partnership with Alfred Thomas Rapkin in 1872, the firm originally at 67 Hatton Garden moving to No. 46 at the turn of the century.

A 19th century rosewood banjo barometer, with silvered brass dial and swans neck pediment. Height 97 cm. CONDITION REPORT: This item has been restored at some point in its life. The scroll pediments may be a later replacement. There are fine spits to either side of the hygrometer and also a split directly beneath the hygrometer towards the thermometer. There are fine splits around the central convex mirror. The knop is missing from beneath the silvered dial. There is a fine split just off centre beneath the level. The interior glass is damaged and houses a teaspoon of mercury, this would require professional attention to put right.
