The holosteric barometer case is discoloured and with scratches, glass with scratches, dial is discoloured and with small staining marks, outer leather case is slightly distressed, plastic bag test done, hand is moving correctly.

Forecaster is in good order, outer box is worn.

A George III fruitwood stick wall thermometer by Cary, with brass mounts and inscribed 'CARY LONDON', 95cm high. Provenance: The late Sir Geoffrey Codrington KCVO DSO, Humberts, King & Chasemore, Roche Court house sale 23rd, 24th and 25th October 1978, Lot 1016. The Property of the Rt. Hon. Sir Mathew Thorpe. The Roche Court Estate was formerly part of the Nelson family estate and remained in the possession of the that family until 1925. In 1938 the property passed into the possession of the Codrington family whose ancestors were closely involved in the naval battles of Trafalgar in 1805, Navarino in 1827, the Crimean War and the South African War.
A late Victorian rosewood and inlaid aneroid wall barometer, circular silvered dial signed Chadburn's Limited Opticians, Liverpool with a thermometer over, the case with a broken swan neck pediment, engaged direct columns, scrolled outline with gadrooning, inlaid with motifs depicting a lady on a windswept balcony and a young lady enjoying the sunshine, globe under, height 112cm, width 36cm.
