Ballater- a miniature Scottish provincial silver mounted novelty thermometer William Robb, marked ROBB / BALLATER Edinburgh 1912, the simple rectangular case with hinged lid opening to reveal an ivory stained plaque with mercury thermometer 5.5cm 1,5cm x 0.5cm Note: Miniature and novelty items formed a large part of Robb`s work and although made for commercial reasons, they also to show his ability as a maker. A large range were made and were popular with local collectors.
A Victorian rosewood timepiece in the form of a miniature longcase clock, the architectural pediment over a spring driven movement with 2½ inch silvered dial over an alcohol thermometer and aneroid barometer with 2½ inch diameter register, the stepped base with presentation plaque presented to `Colour Sergeant J Robertson by Major J R Campbell, 85th KLI (Kings Light Infantry) on leaving the Regiment` 49cm high, along with a coopered oak butter dish holder with plated mounts the lid engraved `Presented to Colour Sergeant J Robertson by the Sergeant`s 85th KLI on his leaving the Regiment`, 16½ cm diameter The 85th Regiment founded in Shrewsbury 1759 and was disbanded and raised twice, 1809 85th Light Infantry, 1821 85th King`s Light Infantry, 1881 King`s Shropshire Light Infantry (Amalgamation of 53rd Shropshire Regiment and 85th KLI). The lot also includes three photographs of later family members of Colour Sergeant J Robertson including W J Robertson, 1918 and Arthur B Robertson, probably the sons of J Robertson.
A late 20th Century Aneroid Wheel Barometer, Rapport of London, the broken arch pediment centred with a cast brass finial, to a baluster throat, and rosette inlaid detail, to a silvered twin scale alcohol thermometer and spun brass bezel, with signed 7 ½" silvered dial with scale of 28-31, height 37"
A Burr Walnut and ebonised bow fronted Stick Barometer, signed Peter Fox of Norfolk, the signed silvered scale of 27-31 with adjustable vernier, beneath an overhanging cornice, to a plain long trunk, set with twin scale silvered mercury thermometer, to a rectangular base with chamfered corners, and set with a half-round cistern cover, height 37"
