Lot 127

1989 Mercedes-Benz 420 SL Transmission: automaticMileage:57512When Mercedes-Benz redesigned its famed SL in 1971, there was a lot of equity behind it €“ after all, when the incomparable 300 SL Coupé and Roadster were built fewer than 20 years before, they set the world on fire. The next generation 230/250/280 SL in 1963 brought Mercedes' sports car down to earth, replacing both the incredible 300 SL and four-cylinder 190 SL. For the next SL, Mercedes started with the chassis of the mid-size W114/115 model and added the motors from the large W116 S-Class. The result was a luxurious V8 convertible that ended up being the longest passenger car series ever produced by Mercedes-Benz to date. The car remained a prized automotive status symbol and an iconic part of the brand's line-up.This Mercedes-Benz SL was originally registered on 1st August 1989 and presents very well. Supplied to the previous owner by the SL shop of Stratford-upon-Avon, the white coachwork of this Mercedes-Benz is in good order as is the hood and the black leather trim. This model is also supplied with a hardtop. We are advised the car drives well and the 4196cc, V8 engine operates smoothly and effectively; this is a very refined power unit. Supplied with a V5C registration document and an MoT test certificate until August 2023, this R107 420 SL is a perfect vehicle for the summer months ahead.

Lot 136

1985 Mercedes-Benz 500 SL Transmission: automaticMileage:109688The Mercedes-Benz SL-Class has been manufactured since 1954. The designation SL derives from the German 'Sport Leicht' or 'Sport Light' and was first applied to the 300SL 'Gullwing,' named after the upward-opening doors. The term SL-Class refers to the marketing variations of the vehicle, including the numerous engine configurations spanning five design generations. The Mercedes-Benz R107 and C107 cars were produced from 1971 through to 1989, being the second longest single series ever produced by Mercedes-Benz after the G-Class. The R107 took the chassis components of the mid-size W114 model and mated them to the larger engines from the S-Class (W116) and has become a benchmark of quality throughout the years.Presented in Astral Silver over contrasting blue cloth and MB Tex trim, this desirable 500 SL R107 has covered an average of less than 3,000 miles a year in its 38 years and has been clearly well cared for. The period Mercedes-Benz trim in very good order is complemented by an original Becker Mexico radio. In 2021 this example was recommissioned extensively after a period of storage details of which can be found in a full report found within the history file, this included full mechanical recommissioning and service and new sills coupled to bulkhead inspection finished off with some new woodwork to the interior and a three stage polish and ceramic coating. A well specified example from new, this example is offered with an MoT test certificate with no advisories and is valid until July this year. Sitting on 14€ Mexican Hat wheels is a very good example of the very popular R107 SL boasting the five litre V8 and adept at wowing people at classic cars shows whilst keeping up with modern day traffic. Offered at a modest auction estimate, viewing is certainly recommended.

Lot 183

1988 Mercedes-Benz 420 SL Transmission: Mileage:87273The Mercedes-Benz 420 SL, also known as the R107, is a classic and iconic luxury convertible produced by Mercedes-Benz from 1971 to 1989. It was introduced as a successor to the 280 SL and was later replaced by the R129 in 1990. The 420 SL was powered by a 4.2 litre V8 engine mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. The 420 SL was a popular choice among the wealthy and celebrities during its production run, and it remains a sought-after classic car today. Its sleek and timeless design, combined with its powerful engine and luxurious interior, make it a true classic that is still admired by car enthusiasts around the world. Overall, the Mercedes-Benz 420 SL is a classic luxury convertible that represents the pinnacle of Mercedes-Benz engineering and design from the 1970s and 1980s.This delightful example of the German classic was originally registered in June 1988 and presents immaculately in dark blue metallic with a contrasting grey leather interior. This V8 engined example of these ever popular convertibles features rear seats and is fitted with a wind deflector. The vendor commissioned his trimmers to replace the seats and add blue piping, which although not a factory option looks stunning. With a no expense spared approach to the works undertaken the car is now one of the finest examples we have seen. Offered to auction with a V5C registration document, an MoT test certificate valid until March 2024 and a file containing the original stamped service book and various bills and receipts. This wonderful example is just waiting for the sun to shine to be fully enjoyed.

Lot 189

2004 Mercedes-Benz SL350 Transmission: automaticMileage:48600The R230 generation of the Mercedes-SL is the fourth-generation of the iconic luxury grand tourer. It was produced from 2001 to 2011 and featured a range of models from the SL 350 to the SL 65 AMG. This generation featured a reworked exterior design, which was more aerodynamic than previous models. It also featured an updated suspension and improved engine performance. The R230 had a choice of engines; the SL 350 had a 3,724cc V6 engine and the SL 65 AMG had a 5,980cc V12 engine. The interior was also updated to a more modern look and feel, with a more ergonomic and comfortable interior. The R230 also offered a range of advanced technologies such as active suspension, active body control, and active cruise control. The R230 was praised by critics for its performance, comfort, and style, and is considered one of the best luxury cars of its era. This superb example is presented in silver with grey leather interior and enjoys its fully electrically operated retractable hardtop. It comes with air conditioning, electric windows, electric front seats and a full Mercedes-Benz service history. These models never seem to age and are extremely practical as well as being elegant and swift when one needs to be somewhere in a hurry. This car is in wonderful condition throughout and offered without reserve, surely this is the one to have!

Lot 195

1936 Mercedes-Benz 170V Roadster Transmission: manualMileage:The Mercedes-Benz 170V (W136) was the company's chief four-cylinder offering from 1935 through to 1955. It was available in saloon, cabriolet, roadster, cabrio-limousine and even pickup and van guises. Pre-1950 the range was powered by an engine of 1697cc capacity. Total production of the W136 line numbered some 158,196 units. This wonderful left hand drive 170V two-seater is believed to be one of only 13 dickie-seat versions remaining of circa 250 produced. It is thought to have come off the production line in 1936 and subsequently brought to the UK by its first keeper, a Baron Von Rautenburg, the then consul of the German embassy in London. First UK registered just nine days before the outbreak of WWII. While much of the history has sadly been lost, there are some early images of the car whilst owned by its second keeper an A J Ray Whiteway, who was Chairman of the Mercedes-Benz Club from 1963 to 1970. They even include shots of the car competing in the club's first ever concours d'elegance, which was held at Gerrards Cross in 1953. Club records suggest it was then owned by a D S D Lenoir before being acquired by the vendor in 1974. He apparently purchased it as a non-runner for £1,000 and had it restored in Oxfordshire, during which the colour was changed from white to its current livery of brown over yellow. The black vinyl interior trim is believed to be original and we understand the existing engine is, however, a 44bhp post-war unit of 1701cc, that appears to have been installed in the late 1960's / early 1970's. Evidently it has only done 200 miles since being thoroughly rebuilt some five years ago, at which time the brake system was overhauled and the clutch was inspected but deemed to be in good order. Recent maintenance has included the replacement of the water pump, front wheel bearings and tyres, while within the last 200 miles a reconditioned differential has been purchased from Germany and installed. The vendor now considers the powerplant and manual transmission to be in very good order.Black and white images by kind permission of the Mercedes-Benz Club Archives.Interested parties should note that contrary to the catalogue description, this example has not run in circa five years and as such general recommissioning will be required. However, prior to this five-year period the Mercedes was treated to a mechanical restoration, and we believe only light recommissioning will be required.

Lot 196

1969 Mercedes-Benz 280 SL Pagoda Transmission: automaticMileage:65513The stylish Mercedes-Benz W113 was presented at the 1963 Geneva Motor Show and replaced both the expensive 300 SL and entry-level 190 SL with one medium-priced two-seat sports car. The SL was a huge success, with 48,912 sold in nine years, and is now considered a true masterpiece. The body combines the elegantly trim look of contemporary Mercedes saloons with a simple grille derived from the 300 SL. Béla Barényi conceived the patented concave hardtop, soon called the 'Pagoda.' Like the best designs, the W113 has proven to be timeless in its appeal. We are pleased to offer this superb low mileage, two owner from new example which is an original and rare 'California Coupé', with the single bench seat as designated by option '417' on its factory record.Originally purchased in July 1969 by its first owner, a Mr. Luigi Bresciani an Italian ice cream manufacturer who ordered the Mercedes as a retirement present to himself. Interestingly Mr. Besciani ordered the Pagoda in U.K. right hand drive specification but had it delivered to his Italian residence. Later in 1972 he returned to England to join his family bringing the Pagoda with him. The Pagoda remained his pride and joy until 1982 when at the age of 80 he found his health failing and with great reluctance arranged for the car to be sold. At this stage, the car had covered some 51,000 miles. Our vendor acquired the vehicle at this time and carried out various maintenance work to ensure the car was ready for further use. The Mercedes was enjoyed for a further 8,000 miles and was taken around the country as well as on the continent.Offered from over four decades of single ownership, this superb example has covered a mere 65,513 miles and has had just two owners from new. Accompanying the Pagoda is a sizeable history file with many documents, sundry bills, service records, MoT test certificates, and even the March 1983, edition of Classic and Sports which the car featured in!Having been dry stored since the current vendors purchase in 1982, this Mercedes was last MoT'd in the early 2000's and has been used sparingly since. Presented in very good, preserved condition the paintwork retains a deep shine and shows little sign of age as does the interior and chrome work. The vendor reports that the car was working as it should when it was parked up in the garage some years ago, however it has not been started in recent times and as such some general recommissioning is required before use. Having covered little mileage from new and with a superb two owner history this example represents a fantastic opportunity to acquire an ever-desirable right hand drive 280 SL Pagoda. We expect this wonderful example to be keenly contested at auction.

Lot 201

1969 Mercedes-Benz 280 SL Pagoda Transmission: automaticMileage:59035There is little doubt that Paul Bracq's design for the Sixties 1960s pagoda was revolutionary and his ability to mix timeless styling with high performance on three different levels was impressive. The entry level version used the 2.3 litre engine followed by the 2.5 and finally the most desirable and spirited 2.8 litre, six-cylinder engine. All bonnet panels, door skins, boot lids and tonneau covers were composed of aluminium giving the car an overall lightness which contributed to the performance that was very well received by the general public. It quickly became apparent that some cars don't change, they just get better. The 280 featured the same modified W111 chassis with independent front suspension and four-wheel disc brakes. A charming model with capable handling, these roadsters have had one of the most sublime styling bodies, and easily comparable to Jaguar's E-Type and the Alfa Romeo's Spider. The driving experience and build quality are respected and, as a result, still highly collectable today. Imported into the UK from the United States of America in 2012, this lefthand drive example was completely rust free and registered with an odometer reading, at that time, of 55,454. It was sold to the previous owner who used it for a number of years before putting it away for storage. Since then, it has under gone a complete and ground up restoration by classic and custom car specialists Hot Rod Technologies based in Hayes, Middlesex.Whilst in restoration, the car was brought up to European specification, this included removing the side marker lamps and fitting European-style headlights. It was also finished in the fetching original blue colour, code #903, with matching hardtop, dark blue soft top and a tan leather interior. It also benefits from the original factory air-conditioning unit and is supplied with V5C registration documents, a full photographic restoration included and a 12-month MoT test certificate. These Pagodas are always a pleasure to drive, particularly in good weather when the roof is down and the smooth six-cylinder engine can really be enjoyed.

Lot 215

1992 Mercedes-Benz SL300 Transmission: automaticMileage:91676In 1989, Mercedes-Benz introduced the fourth generation SL model, the R129, which was supplied in Europe with several engine options and named accordingly. The basic model was the 190hp three litre, inline six-cylinder 300 SL with 12 valves, and the 228hp three litre, inline six-cylinder with 24 valves, known as the 300 SL 24. However, it was the 322hp 500 SL with a five litre V8 engine which made the headlines, only surpassed by the flagship 600 SL with its V12 engine. The specification was high with electric windows, mirrors, seats and roof. The R129 model was the first convertible/roadster to offer the automatic roll-bar deployment in event of rollover, although the motorist could also manually raise and lower the roll-bar should they choose to, thus facilitating the clean look of the R129 without compromising the occupant's safety.Elegantly presented in classic burgundy with a beige leather interior, this 24 valve SL300 has covered 91,676 miles since new. Well specified with electric heated seats and a matching hardtop. Supplied with an MoT test certificate until July 2023 and V5C registration document, this represents a well-cared for example and it ticks all the boxes for classic open touring this summer.Guide Price £15,000-£20,000Interested parties should note that the hood is currently inoperable due to the anti-roll bar being stuck in the upright position, we can hear the clicks from the function but the hydraulics appear to be faulty disabling the ability to use the hard/soft top at this juncture and would require some attention.

Lot 240

1986 Mercedes-Benz 560 SL Transmission: automaticMileage:46028The 560 SL convertible was the latest in Mercedes-Benz's long and much loved line of luxury sports cars. Launched in 1983 it could trace its lineage back to the 230 SL of 1963. The 560 SL was powered by a 5.5 litre, overhead camshaft V8 engine producing 227bhp, an output good enough for a top speed of 220kmh with 100kmh reachable in around eight seconds. There were improvements to the running gear in the form of anti-dive, anti-squat rear suspension, a limited slip differential and revised steering geometry. The 560 SL has a high level of standard equipment, including leather upholstery, anti-lock braking, an anti-theft alarm system, stereo radio/cassette, leather trimmed steering wheel, gear lever and an improved climate control system. This flagship Mercedes-Benz R107 is presented in red with matching hardtop and contrasting magnolia leather trim and hood. This example originally delivered to the USA was imported to the UK in 2007 and is described by our vendor as in excellent condition having benefitted from dry storage and being maintained regardless of cost in its current tenure. Offered with an MoT until July 2023 the Mercedes comes with a sizeable history file and is perhaps the best example we have seen. Perfect for that trip to the continent or holiday home or perhaps just taking advantage of that 5.5 litre Mercedes V8. An opportunity not to be missed.

Lot 254

2004 Mercedes-Benz Vito 115 CDi LWB Camper Transmission: manualMileage:186900The Vito is a minivan produced by Mercedes-Benz and was available as a standard panel van for cargo called Vito, or with passenger accommodations substituted for part or all of the load area called V-Class or Viano.
