Property of a F1 racing mechanic (Lots 708 to 709). Phil ‘Sailor’ Boore joined the Frank Williams F1 team in 1974. Two years later it became Walter Wolf Racing and, as the team’s ‘tyre man’, he worked with Jody Scheckter and Keke Rosberg. In 1982 he joined McLaren and spent the next 18 years looking after the likes of Niki Lauda, Alain Prost, Ayrton Senna, Mika Hakkinen and David Coulthard. He eventually retired in April 2000 having contributed to no fewer than nine Formula 1 Drivers World Championships. Where applicable the following lots are sold with the approval of McLaren International. * Juan Manuel Fangio-signed 1958 Cuban Grand Prix poster, a colour facsimile reproduction bearing his marker pen signature, framed and glazed along with his honorary Mercedes-Benz business card and two period monochrome photographic prints of him in his Maserati 450S during practice, plus a colour photographic print of the actual signing, 84 by 83cms., 33 by 32I ins. Then current World Champion for a record fifth time, Fangio never took the start of what would have been his last ever sportscar race. He watched the event on television alongside members of Fidel Castro’s revolutionary 26th of July Movement who had kidnapped him at gunpoint the evening before the race. Having generated worldwide publicity for their cause, they soon released him unharmed after the race
