(4)
Unused colour posters for all five Grand Prix held at Aintree, comprising 1955, 1957, 1959, 1961 & 1962, some artwork by Roy Nockolds, size 75 by 51cm., 30 by 20 in., plus an additional two 1955 posters and smaller flyers from race sponsor the Daily Telegraph, including a stop-press announcement that the Mercedes-Benz team would race (9) That the first grand prix at Aintree took place at all was an achievement in itself, following as it did in the wake of the 1955 Le Mans disaster, in which upwards of 80 people were killed when a Mercedes-Benz somersaulted into the crowd. This was and still is the worst tragedy ever to occur in motor racing and resulted in Aintree's safety being questioned in parliament. In Switzerland motor racing was banned forever.
Unused colour posters for all five Grand Prix held at Aintree, similar to the previous lot, comprising 1955, 1957, 1959, 1961 & 1962, some artwork by Roy Nockolds, size 75 by 51cm., 30 by 20 in., plus an additional two 1955 posters and smaller flyers from race sponsor the Daily Telegraph, including a stop-press announcement that the Mercedes-Benz team would race (9) Aintree hosted two Grand Prix that were of particular historic significance: 1955 which marked the first time a British driver had won the British GP (and was also the first of Stirling Moss' 16 GP victories); 1957 which marked the first British GP to be won by a British driver in a British car-Stirling Moss again, but this time sharing the driving with Tony Brooks in a Vanwall.
