Lot 156

1967 Mercedes-Benz 250 SL Pagoda Transmission: automaticMileage:66044The very pretty and highly desirable Mercedes-Benz 250 SL was the successor to the popular 230 SL and was first introduced to the public at the 1967 Geneva Motor Show. The brief production run ended a year later in January 1968 and as a result of this short run, the 250 SL is the rarest of the W113 (Pagoda) series cars. It retained the stiffer suspension and sportier feel of the early SLs but provided improved agility with a new 150bhp, seven main bearing engine and it also came with rear disc brakes. The range was also improved with the increased fuel tank capacity which went up from 65 litres to 82 litres. These lovely German stalwarts were offered with a four-speed automatic, a four-speed manual box or the ZF five-speed. Also, for the first time an optional limited slip differential was also available which improved the handling no end. This well-presented 250 SL is offered in the desirable colour combination of white (W113) with a dark blue hood and interior, it was imported by the current vendor from the United States in 2014. Since its arrival the Pagoda has been treated to various restoration work undertaken by Mercedes-Benz Specialists, Silchester Cars Ltd. The paintwork is generally in good order throughout showing very few blemishes and still retains a deep shine. The interior too is very good, the carpets and seat upholstery look to have been restored in recent times and the dash presents well. Used occasionally by our vendor the 250 SL comes to the open market in good condition ready to be enjoyed imminently. Offered with various sundry bills, invoices for restoration work, previous MoT test certificates, the UK V5 registration document and the current MoT test certificate valid until September 2022. Ready to be enjoyed by its new custodian, this Mercedes-Benz 250 SL looks to be exceptional value given the guide price.Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. Accordingly, buyers are on notice that each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ subject to the Terms and Conditions for the auction. Lot 198

1961 Mercedes-Benz 190SL Transmission: manualMileage:347The Mercedes-Benz 190SL with the 300SL made history at the New York International Motor Sports Show in February 1954 by being the first new production Mercedes- Benz to be unveiled outside of Germany. The impression given by the 190SL alongside the bigger 300SL was neat, sporty and with dashing lines. This was the trait of Mercedes-Benz designers Karl Wilfret and Walter Hacket. Despite opinions, the statistics tell their own tale as between May 1955 and February 1963, 25,881 of these cars were produced, it was a huge success for Mercedes-Benz. Its engine boasted four inline cylinders with a chain driven overhead camshaft and two Solex 44PHH carburettors, delivering a respectable 108bhp for that era. The body was a monocoque design, welded to the shortened chassis of the type 180 saloon. A racing version with aluminium doors and a small windscreen was never produced although these parts could be ordered from the factory for weekend racing. This left hand drive 190SL was imported from South Africa circa six years ago where it was subject to an extensive restoration, which included a colour change from Medium Grey to Black (DB040). The car has resided in a private collection since import and comes complete with records of previous MoT test certificates and the UK V5 registration document. With its superb colour combination of Black bodywork and cream leather upholstery, this beautiful 190SL convertible is a suitable acquisition for the discerning collector.Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. Accordingly, buyers are on notice that each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ subject to the Terms and Conditions for the auction. Lot 210

1988 Excalibur Series V Four Door Saloon Transmission: manualMileage:37710With styling based on the 1928 Mercedes-Benz SSK, the Excalibur was designed by Brook Stevens for Studebaker who then formed a company to manufacture and market the cars. These handcrafted luxury cars are manufactured in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and are fitted with drive train and suspension systems from General Motors. These rear wheel drive, four-speed, automatic cars are well equipped and proved popular with many American stars including Sonny and Cher, Tony Curtis and the comedienne Phyllis Diller who owned four of them. This extremely rare Series V, four-door, version is finished in Antique White and trimmed in Dove Grey leather with burgundy piping. The interior is complemented by a walnut dashboard and door cappings and the look is enhanced with wire wheels and an abundance of chrome. This low mileage example shows only two previous owners since its arrival in the UK in 2005. The history file for this Excalibur contains a V5C registration document, an MoT test certificate valid until June 2022, previous MoT test certificates and various maintenance and service invoices. Also included are original price lists, specification sheets and a sales brochure. Realistically priced, this head turning luxury car has enormous kerb appeal and would be ideal as a wedding or prom car or just a wonderful addition to any car collection. Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. Accordingly, buyers are on notice that each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ subject to the Terms and Conditions for the auction. Lot 216

1979 Porsche 911 / 930 Turbo by RUF BTR Transmission: manualMileage:147943Those that know Porsche, know RUF. As AMG is to Mercedes-Benz, RUF take already formidable driving machines and turn them into psychotic hooligans. In a small village in the Allgau region, west of Munich, is the home of RUF Automobile GmbH, a small company who, in conjunction with Porsche, has rewritten the rule books using their own very special font. Production began in earnest in 1983 with the first vehicle to bear a RUF chassis number, a 3.4 litre Turbo model pushing out 374hp through a RUF developed five-speed manual gearbox, arrived. It wasn’t just about raw power; a special instrument was developed, twin spark plugs installed, RUF harness, seats and steering wheel. These upgrades were all cloaked in a new RUF BTR (standing for Group B Turbo RUF) Turbo bodywork.RUF concentrates not only on engine, transmission and body, but also on wheels and brakes with RUF 17” forged Speedline alloy wheels complementing the model range as well RUFs classic four-pipe exhaust and 17” tyres (originally developed for the 959) resulting from a close co-operation with tyre manufacturer, Dunlop. The CTR followed, a lightweight coupé powered by a 469hp, 3.4 litre, twin-turbo engine. This ‘Yellowbird’ as it came to be known, set new benchmarks for street-legal, performance sports cars. It destroyed its peers such as the Ferrari F40, AMG Mercedes-Benz and even the works-tuned Porsche 959. It was in that same year that the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) certified RUF as an automobile manufacturer in its own right. To this day RUF continues to source 'bodies-in-white' directly from Porsche to then produce bespoke sports cars to their new owner’s specification and with each very special set of characteristics. This early lefthand drive RUF BTR with a 3.3 turbo engine is believed to be one of between 70 and 80 examples bearing an original Porsche chassis number and the car still features on their website.First registered in 1979, this Porsche 911/930 Turbo was significantly upgraded to BTR specification in circa 1985 using original RUF parts. The plaque on the glovebox indicates the conversion was completed by the authorised Japanese RUF importer, Ishida Engineering, in conjunction with RUF HQ. Indeed, the RUF factory in Pfaffenhausen, Germany, has supplied a recent letter confirming the originality of all RUF parts and modifications.• RUF five-speed gearbox• RUF single piece forged Speedline alloy wheels (9x17 & 10x17)• RUF twin double tailpipes and exhaust muffler• RUF cockpit Turbo Boost Control• RUF Turbo body kit: deeper bumpers front and rear, and thicker-set side skirts,• RUF badged engine lid• RUF DTM grafted racing wing mirrors• RUF embossed steering wheel• RUF badged instrument cluster with turbo boost gauges• RUF embossed gear lever• RUF floor carpets• Ishida Engineering/RUF plaque on the glovebox• Original RUF specified Recaro racing bucket seats with harnessesSpecified originally in Grand Prix White, this purposeful-looking BTR is fully registered in the UK, fully serviced and comes with a full up-to-date MoT test certificate. Importantly though, it also comes with a Certificate of Authenticity from Porsche themselves as well as a Certificate of Authenticity from RUF.Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. Accordingly, buyers are on notice that each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ subject to the Terms and Conditions for the auction. Lot 222

1995 Mercedes-Benz SL 500 Transmission: automaticMileage:102448Following the resounding success of the R107, the R129 Mercedes-Benz SL had a rather tough act to follow, as it still had to carry on the tradition of a fast and reliable grand touring convertible. The advantage designers had with the R129 was technology. By the time the final car rolled off the production line in 1989, these earlier models had been in production for 18 years with very little change. Therefore, the SL500 featured many new and innovative ideas, such as controlled electronic damping, automatically expanding roll-over bar and a more modern multi link rear axle. In addition to this was a fully operating electric roof, windows, door mirrors and seats, which made this model easy and comfortable to operate. The new SL also boasted a more powerful engine and the stopping power was aided by anti-locking braking for added reassurance.First registered on 1st August 1995, this example is presented in stunning, recently fully painted, metallic blue with the grey leather trim and electric seats. Our vendor purchased the car in 2017 from a family friend after the car had been garaged and off the road, having a real soft spot for the R129 he has commissioned the car to be fully repainted and the desirable AMG specification wheels all refurbished. This was combined with earlier cosmetic restoration works such as new roof glass, a new wiring loom (for which these cars are known) with an auto electrician ensuring all of the electrics work as they should. Being a later R129 the seats are fully electric, the bumpers are fully colour coded as per the 1995 facelift and side airbags. The car is offered with the original book pack, an MoT test certificate valid until September 2022 and having had a recent service. Offered in what is possibly the best colour combination with the most desirable V8 engine, this is a very desirable example of the ever-popular R129 Mercedes-Benz SL.Interested parties should note that the V5 for this lot has been misplaced and the vehicle will be sold without this document, the new owner will need to apply for a V5 using a V62 form from the DVLA.Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. Accordingly, buyers are on notice that each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ subject to the Terms and Conditions for the auction. 1991 Excalibur Phaeton IV Transmission: automaticMileage:18949The Excalibur from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was a car styled after the 1928 Mercedes-Benz SSK by Brooks Stevens for Studebaker. Stevens subsequently formed a company to manufacture and market the cars which were conventional under their styling. A prototype premiered at car shows in 1964 fitted on a Studebaker chassis and using a 290-horsepower Studebaker 289ci V8. Studebaker subsequently ceased operations, ending the availability of its 289ci V8 so General Motors agreed to provide a Chevrolet 327ci in 300bhp Corvette tune, making the 2100-pound Excalibur a strong performer. With acceleration from 0-60mph taking less than five seconds and projected top speed was 160mph, the Excalibur was not for the faint hearted. This 1983 Phaeton IV model benefits from a 4998cc engine and was imported from the USA in 1991. Presented in Pure White with striking chrome work and an impressive red leather interior, the car comes to auction with a V5C registration document and a removable hardtop. The look of this example is enhanced by wire wheels, a split front windscreen and the classic side mounted spare wheel. It is easy to see why previous owners of this head turning marque have included Frank Sinatra, Steve McQueen and Dean Martin. Offered with a very competitive estimate, this rare piece of motoring will certainly stand you out from the crowd and that tuneful V8 is bound to make you and passengers grin from ear to ear.Interested parties should note that this vehicle is now offered without reserve and this Excalibur requires a new water pump.Lot is no reserve.Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. Lot 242

1964 Mercedes-Benz 230 SL Pagoda Transmission: automaticMileage:50380The Mercedes-Benz W113 roadsters, designed by Paul Bracq, were produced from 1963 through to 1971 and were known as the 'pagoda roof' SL. All models boast an inline six-cylinder engine with multi-port fuel injection. Rear-wheel drive configuration was complemented by independent rear suspension, a feature that greatly improved road handling. The 230 SL made a remarkable debut at the prestigious Geneva Motor Show in March 1963 where the famous German engineer, Fritz Nallinger introduced it as follows It was our aim to create a very safe and fast sports car with high performance which, despite its sports characteristics, provides a very high degree of travelling comfort”. Early or pre-September 1964 cars had a vertically mounted spare wheel that recessed into the spare wheel well on the left hand side of the boot. After September 1964, Mercedes-Benz did away with the wheel well, instead lying the spare wheel horizontally, compromising boot space commonly thus early cars were known as ‘drop floor cars’ which are desirable especially for those touring and wanting the extra space.Sold at auction by Historics to Pagoda restoration specialists in March 2020, this early ‘drop floor’ or vertically mounted rear wheel well, UK supplied, right hand drive matching engine and chassis car has had an interesting last 24 months. The result of a bad debt, it was repossessed by the bank (Santander) before being offered by Historics having been stripped and readied for restoration with some £10,000 spent in preparation. A specialist in Pagoda restorations, saw the potential in EYY 323B and set about a full nut and bolt restoration with circa £30,000 spent on the body alone which included sandblasting, four new lower corners, floor and boot plan before beautiful paint was applied. Due to health issues of the owner, the car was sold by Historics, partially restored, earlier in 2021 before being purchased and completed thus now offered as a fully restored example.Presented in Ivory with Midnight Blue leather trim, the engine has now been recommissioned and the final touches completed with new shocks and suspension components fitted, as such this is a wonderful right hand drive 230 Pagoda. HPI records reveal four previous owners and importantly, that it was registered in the UK from new, making this a factory right hand drive example which is particularly desirable; especially with the mileage which is believed to be correct. UK supplied Pagodas are selling well in excess of this attractive estimate, so we believe this represents fantastic value in such condition.Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. Accordingly, buyers are on notice that each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ subject to the Terms and Conditions for the auction. Buyers are advised to inspect the vehicle in person or use a professional to carry out this service. Historics will not entertain disputes over descriptions.

1996 Mercedes-Benz SL320 Special Edition Transmission: automaticMileage:76500The Mercedes-Benz R129 models were produced from 1989 through to 2001 and were sold under the SL Class model names. The R129 replaced the R107 SL Class in 1989 and was subsequently replaced by the R230 in 2001. The R129 was based on the shortened floor pan of the Mercedes-Benz W124 saloon and featured many innovative details for the time, for example, electronically controlled shock absorbers (optional) and a hidden, automatically extending roll-over bar. The level of standard equipment was high, with electrically operated windows, mirrors, seats and convertible hood. The R129 came to public attention in 1991 when Diana, Princess of Wales, sold her Jaguar XJS to lease a J-registration, metallic-red 500SL, becoming the first member of the royal family to use a foreign car. This controversy sparked a media storm as it was questioned whether a member of British royalty should drive foreign cars. Media pressure eventually forced her to return the car to Mercedes-Benz in 1992 with whom it now resides in the Mercedes-Benz Museum. On offer here is a Mercedes-Benz 320SL Special Edition, finished in brilliant blue with a contrasting cream leather interior. The current vendor describes the car as being exceedingly pleasant to drive and a delight to own. Showing little sign of age, this Mercedes has recently been serviced and has been fitted with two new Continental tyres. Supplied with a V5C registration document, an MoT test certificate valid until July 2022, together with a good level of service history and a factory panoramic hardtop. Lot 260

1986 Mercedes-Benz 560 SL Transmission: automaticMileage:90400The 560 SL convertible was the latest in Mercedes-Benz's long and much loved line of luxury sports cars. Launched in 1983 it could trace its lineage back to the 230 SL of 1963. The 560 SL was powered by a 5.5 litre, overhead camshaft V8 engine producing 227bhp, an output good enough for a top speed of 220kmh with 100kmh reachable in around eight seconds. There were improvements to the running gear in the form of anti-dive, anti-squat rear suspension, a limited slip differential and revised steering geometry. The 560 SL has a high level of standard equipment, included leather upholstery, anti-lock braking, an anti-theft alarm system, stereo radio/cassette, leather trimmed steering wheel, gear lever and an improved climate control system. This flagship Mercedes-Benz R107 is presented in Arctic White with matching hardtop and contrasting red leather trim and soft top. This example originally delivered to the USA was imported to the UK in 2018 and is described by our vendor as in good condition having benefitted from a recent full service with new brake discs and pads before the wheels were shod with four new continental tyres. Benefitting from an MoT until August 2022 and a good history file this is a great cost effective roadster perhaps perfect for that trip to the continent or holiday home or perhaps just taking advantage of that 5.5 litre Mercedes V8.Price Guide £12,000 - £16,000Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. Lot 265

1992 Mercedes-Benz 300CE Transmission: automaticMileage:123750W124 is the Mercedes-Benz internal chassis designation reference for the 1985 to 1995 version of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Due to the high cost of German engineering and build quality, the model was designed to last many miles with awards won by high mileage versions. Front suspension is by way of a separate spring and damper while the rear suspension features the Mercedes-Benz multi-link axle introduced in 1982 on the 190 and which is now standard on many modern cars. Much of the 124's engineering and many of its features were advanced automotive technology at introduction and incorporated innovations that were adopted throughout the industry. It had one of the lowest drag coefficients of any vehicle at the time due to its aerodynamic body which included plastic moulding for the undercarriage to streamline airflow beneath the car, reducing fuel consumption and wind noise. Another feature of the W124 is the single windscreen wiper that had an eccentric mechanism at its base extending the wiper's reach to the top corners of the windscreen. This lovely example is presented in blue metallic with grey leather interior and comes with an electric sunroof, electric windows, air conditioning and electric front seats. It has a modern stereo fitted and the history file contains some old MoT test certificates and various invoices. These coupés are becoming sought after and have increased in value significantly of late, looking at the condition of this car and appreciating how well built they are it is easy to understand why.Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. Accordingly, buyers are on notice that each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ subject to the Terms and Conditions for the auction. 2004 Mercedes-Benz Vito 115 CDi LWB Camper Transmission: manualMileage:186181 The Vito is a minivan produced by Mercedes-Benz and was available as a standard panel van for cargo called Vito, or with passenger accommodations substituted for part or all of the load area called V-Class or Viano. Available in both rear and four-wheel drive configurations and three lengths, two wheelbases and a choice of four petrol and diesel engines (as well as two specialist tuned models) coupled to either a six-speed manual or five-speed TouchShift automatic transmission.Originally registered in July of 2004 and with just four former keepers, this very presentable example is finished in silver with complementary grey trim and a five-speed TouchShift automatic gearbox. Originally a Vito long wheelbase van, it was professionally converted by the previous owner to be the ideal day tripper. The original manuals for the conversion are in the history file and are complemented by various Mercedes-Benz invoices and MoT test certificates. A full kitchen unit with twin cooker hob and gas bottle, a fridge, a sink with running water and waste, LED down lights and mains plugs with a mains hook-up, a rock and roll bed, ample storage, solar panels which can provide power when the batteries not in use and a tow bar make this a very practical yet understated camper. Lot 270

1977 Mercedes-Benz 450SL Transmission: automaticMileage:76000Introduced early in 1971, this impressive two-seater sports car replaced the 280SL. The body and chassis of the third generation Mercedes-Benz SL was considerably heavier and longer than its predecessor but still showed a resemblance to them. The 3.5 litre, V8 engine underwent slight modifications to those being used on other models and the gear shift lever was placed on the floor in the centre of the car. The standard transmission provided a top speed of 130mph and a very respectable 0-62mph in 8.8 seconds. As with the previous generation SL's, the vehicle came as an open roadster with removable hardtop and went on to become one of the longest running styles from Mercedes-Benz. A range of engine size were available, one of the more powerful and rarer was the 4.5 litre unit.Originally delivered new to California in the USA, this example was imported to the UK in 2019. Now presented with a modern grey paintwork and contrasting but original leather trim and matching hardtop. This example has clearly seen some restoration works over the past 18 months by the previous owner which includes fully painting the car and some bespoke trimming coupled to a new rear box on the exhaust and additional sound deadening and carpeting. This restoration was fulfilled by the then owner rather than professionally, but the current vendor states the car runs and drives very well however it would benefit from some further finishing touches as the air conditioning is not currently functioning and there is a crack in the rear hardtop screen. The car is offered with three sets of keys, an alarm and MoT test certificate with the only advisories relating to the US specification lights. In this colourway, this Mercedes is a handsome example and priced at a ‘get in and go’ level not professing to be a garage queen, but a usable enjoyable classic offered without reserve.Guide Price £9,000 - £14,000 Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. Accordingly, buyers are on notice that each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ subject to the Terms and Conditions for the auction. Buyers are advised to inspect the vehicle in person or use a professional to carry out this service. Historics will not entertain disputes over descriptions.
