Rolex. A stainless steel automatic calendar bracelet watch with dual time zoneModel: GMT Master 'Fuchsia'Reference: 1675Date: Circa 1968Movement: 26-jewel Cal.1570 automatic, adjusted to 5 positions & temperature, No.D316826Dial: Black, luminous dot hour markers, white outer minute markers, magnified date aperture at 3, polished Mercedes hands with luminous inserts, centre seconds, arrow tipped red GMT handCase: Brushed and polished tonneau form, screw down back and shouldered crown, inside back date coded IV.68, bi-directional 'Fuchsia Pepsi' bezel, No.1982862Strap/Bracelet: Fitted Jubilee link, end links stamped 50Buckle/Clasp: Signed folding clasp, stamped 6521H and date stamped 1/69Signed: Case, dial & movementSize: 39mm Accompaniments: Rolex box, Rolex after sales service box, Rolex service quote dated January 2021Footnotes:The Rolex GMT was launched in 1954 after the Transatlantic Airways company asked Rolex to produce a watch useful for their pilots. It quickly gained favour among the Pan-Am executives and the business jet-set community as a whole.Offered continuously since its introduction with relatively little modification it is perhaps, along with the Submariner, the most classic Rolex 'tool' watch made. The reference 1675 began production 80 years ago in 1960. This was the first GMT Master reference to feature protective crown guards as well as the smaller triangular tip on the second hour hand. The current example features a Pepsi bezel that over time has aged to an amazing vibrant pink thus earning the nickname of 'Fuchsia'. The varying colours that vintage Rolexs turn demonstrates an interesting point in Rolex history where they were experimenting with different suppliers and materials to create the most desirable finishes. The different aging nature of varying materials now means 60 years later vintage bezels and dials are constantly providing fascination. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

Rolex. A rare stainless steel automatic calendar bracelet watchModel: Double Red Sea DwellerReference: 1665Date: Circa 1972Movement: 26-jewel Cal.1570 automatic, free-sprung Glucydur microstella balance, adjusted to 5 positions & temperature, No.D483797Dial: Matte black Mark IV, luminous dot hour markers, baton quarters, white outer minute divisions, date aperture at 3, polished Mercedes hands with luminous inserts, centre secondsCase: Brushed and polished tonneau form, screw down back and shouldered crown, inside back stamped I.72, calibrated bezel, No.3543269Strap/Bracelet: Brushed and polished 93150 Oyster link, 580 end linksBuckle/Clasp: Signed folding clasp, stamped VCSigned: Case, dial & movementSize: 40mm Accompaniments: Rolex box, outer card (AF), International Service Guarantee cardFootnotes:The 'Double-Red' Sea-Dweller reference 1665 appeared in the Rolex catalogue from 1972 until 1975. The nickname refers to the two red printed lines on the dial. The 'Sea-Dweller 2000' was one of the first production watches to employ a gas-escape valve on the band of the case, which allows the interior of a watch to decompress and avoids damage. The one way valve automatically releases built up gas from inside the case when the diver rises from the deep sea environment without which the watch would be in danger of popping the seals. Interestingly, the plexi glass covering the dial did not feature the usual cyclops magnifying the date window as it adds a pressure point which would cause a weakness. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

Rolex. An 18K gold automatic calendar wristwatch with tropicalised nipple dial and unusual green writingModel: SubmarinerReference: 1680Date: Circa 1973Movement: 26-jewel Cal.1570 automatic, adjusted to 5 positions & temperature, No.D404589Dial: Tropicalised blue/green, applied luminous filled gilt 'nipple' dot hour markers, baton quarters, outer minute divisions, magnified date aperture at 3, gilt Mercedes hands with luminous inserts, centre secondsCase: Brushed and polished tonneau form, screw down back and shouldered crown, bi-directional calibrated bezel with blue insert, No.3309808Strap/Bracelet: Black leather with blue stitching Buckle/Clasp: Gold plated buckleSigned: Case, dial & movementSize: 40mm Accompaniments: Rolex box, spare blue crocodile leather strap with 18K gold Rolex buckleFootnotes:To upgrade the appearance of the dial; several gold versions of the Submariner and GMT Master were fitted with gold chaton markers in which the luminescent was placed, instead of the regular directly applied luminescent dots and batons as found on the steel versions. The use of applied chatons to the dial has created the affectionate nickname 'nipple dial' amongst Rolex enthusiasts. The current example is further interesting by the unusual way in which the dial has aged. With an almost chalk like effect this style of dial has earned the nickname of an 'earth' dial. This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: YY Subject to CITES regulations when exporting items outside of the EU, see clause 13.For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

The current lot is a great example of this having been owned by a professional deep sea saturation diver who wore it around the world in places such as Russia, India, Africa and Bermuda. Used extensively as a working watch in the North Sea oilfields, this watch along with its owner would dive to depths of up to 200 metres and survived periods of up to a month at a time confined in pressurised saturation diving chambers. These chambers were filled will heliox gas which would enable the men to launch and dive in a diving bell to the sea floor. One of the design features that made the Sea Dweller such a vital piece of equipment was how it handled during decompression post dive. Decompression can take up to 5 days and to avoid the watch from getting damaged Rolex designed the Sea Dweller 2000 to be the first production watch to employ a gas-escape valve on the band of the case. This one way valve automatically releases built up gas from inside the case when the diver rises from the deep sea environment without which the watch would be in danger of popping the seals. Interestingly, the plexi glass covering the dial did not feature the usual cyclops magnifying the date window as it adds a pressure point which would cause a weakness. The 'Double-Red' Sea-Dweller reference 1665 appeared in the Rolex catalogue from 1972 until 1975. The nickname refers to the two red printed lines on the dial setting it apart from the Single Red and Great White versions of the same model. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com
