Known as 'SportLine Zero', this 350 SL has been converted to fully electric propulsion by marque specialists, SLSHOP. Fully rebuilt from the ground upwards with an investment of nearly £200,000. The story begins when SCC 107K arrived at SLSHOP ready for retirement, minus its engine and with a faulty gearbox, and seemed an ideal candidate to be rebuilt as an electrically-powered classic Mercedes, a project that was already under consideration by the innovative team at the SLSHOP. The car was then completely stripped and rebuilt with the utmost attention to detail, with every aspect of the change carefully planned to retain the handling characteristics of the standard version. Unlike a conventionally designed car, with the substantial weight of the engine and gearbox positioned in the middle at the front, the team were comparatively free to position the heavy components where they wanted to and, using corner-weight scales during construction, it was possible to position the batteries and heavy electrical components so the weight was reasonably divided between all four quarters of the SL. Consequently, a dynamic balance was achieved resulting in the safe predictable handling for which the R107 was renowned. The electrics and running gear are discretely hidden, and there are no clues to the car's transformation other than the OAT gauge which now displays battery charge capacity, the non-standard gear selector and a charging plug beneath the fuel flap. Mounted front and rear are 53kWh of Tesla batteries, powering a 150bhp 213lb/ft electric motor, more than enough for an SL, and offering a range of 150 miles. Acceleration is dialled down at low speeds to closely match that of the petrol-engined version, the 0-60 time is on a par with that of the original, and performance can be adjusted to suit the owner. Make no mistake, this is a quick and capable car, boasting superior SportLine suspension and brakes. Writing in The Daily Telegraph in April 2020, Quentin Wilson was one of the first motoring journalists to drive the SportLine Zero: 'This electric SL can really shift... the sheer ingenuity of engineering this old Merc to drive so well on battery power eclipsed my nostalgia for its traditional powerplant... I was repeatedly struck at how captivating it felt. What's also quickly apparent is how natural it all feels, like the SL should have always been powered like this.'The Sportline has been owned by our vendor, a well-known private Collector, for a while and whilst in his care, has been professionally valeted every month, accruing less than 500 miles since his purchase. A modern take on a classic look, this electric SL is both a showstopper and Concours d'Elegance winner, a fascinating combination of modern technology and old-fashioned craftsmanship. It's supplied with its V5C and is UK-registered as an Electric Vehicle. For city-centre driving, it can be charged from an EV point or three-pin plug from a domestic supply and, encouragingly, it’s worth noting that the SLSHOP and Electric Classic Cars are able to offer ongoing maintenance support for the new owner of this fabulous creation. Come along and have a glimpse of the future.Specification Make: MERCEDES Model: R107 SL EV Year: 1975 Chassis Number: 10704322011980 Registration Number: SCC 107K Transmission: Manual Drive Side: Right-hand Drive Odometer Reading: 220000 KM Make: RHDClick here for more details and images

Lot 124

The 300 marked a post-war return to Mercedes-Benz tradition of building high-performance, luxury automobiles of the highest quality. Daimler-Benz AG emerged from the smoking rubble of World War II in somewhat precarious health, with production plants that had been pretty comprehensively levelled by Allied bombing. Far from being a broken nation, the resilience of the workforce was remarkable, and Mercedes-Benz resumed car production in 1946, albeit with the pre-war 170V, a modest middle-class car that had been their best-seller in the 1930s. However, in less than six years, the company was sufficiently confident to return to the luxury market when the Mercedes 300 was introduced at the 1951 Frankfurt Motor Show, and for the duration of the 1950s, Mercedes-Benz prestige line-up was based on the 300 range, at the heart of which was essentially the same superb 2,996cc overhead-camshaft six-cylinder engine found in the legendary 300SL 'Gullwing'. The 300 Saloon was aimed squarely at Captains of Industry and Heads of State - indeed, the model was nicknamed 'Adenauer' after Konrad Adenauer, the first Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany. In office from 1949 to 1963, he employed six custom convertible, hardtop, and landaulet versions during his tenure. Inside, the 300 was beautifully executed in polished wood, with deep bucket seats trimmed in either cloth or leather, and a division was available as an option for those who preferred to be chauffeur driven. Improvements came with the 300B of 1954 in the form of twin Solex carburettors, along with servo-assisted brakes and minor styling changes, while the 300C model of September 1955 saw the option of a Borg-Warner 3-speed automatic for the American market. Introduced in August 1957, the 300D was the linear successor to the 300C, with a longer wheelbase, fuel injection, and unique hardtop configuration transforming it into a pillarless 'Phaeton'. An additional 4" of wheelbase provided greater rear legroom, equalling that of the long wheelbase Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud. Removable rear quarter-lights allowed an unobstructed view in and out from the front vent window all the way to the back, much valued in the model's popular role as a 'parade car'. Employing a slightly detuned version of the 300 SL sports cars Bosch fuel-injected engine, the 300D produced 180bhp at 5,500rpm. Automatic transmission was standard and power brakes, power steering, and Artic-Kar air-conditioning were added as options.Offered here is a truly magnificent 1959 Mercedes-Benz (W189) 300D, delivered new in right-hand drive to Australia. Presented in Schwartz/black paintwork with a remarkably well-preserved luxurious Crimson leather interior. This particular 'Adenauer' has benefitted from the warm, dry Australian climate. It's fitted with a matching numbers, fuel-injected, 3-litre straight-six producing around 180bhp coupled to a 3-speed automatic transmission. Having formed part of a small private Collection in recent years, the 300D's bodywork has benefitted from some cosmetic attention with the underside also in good order as might be expected from a vehicle from a dry country. Internally, the original leather upholstery remains, and the wooden door caps, veneers, Bakelite and chrome all present with patina commensurate with the car's age. It's accompanied by a detailed history file including the original Owners Manuals, service book and the original toolkit. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a truly remarkable 300D 'Adenauer'. Its commanding presence and stately manner are irresistible to both occupants and bystanders alike, and it's rather unlikely that you will park next to another one.Specification Make: MERCEDES Model: 300D ADENAUER Year: 1959 Chassis Number: R1890108501131 Registration Number: 641 XVT Transmission: Automatic Engine Number: R189980-8500909 Drive Side: Right-hand Drive Odometer Reading: 14373 Miles Make: RHD Interior Colour: Red HideClick here for more details and images

Lot 145

An exceptional example of the 5-litre R107 with just 65,200 miles from new and a detailed ownership and service history from ‘Day One’. Offered with No Reserve. This delightful Mercedes-Benz 500SL, finished in Smoke Silver with black leather, dates from early 1986 and was initially supplied by Glen Henderson, (Stuggart) Ltd. to Archer Car Sales in Airdrie, and onwards to its first owner, Phillips Electrical Ltd., on 14th February of that year for the use of one of their directors. It subsequently passed to Island Publishing Ltd. to be enjoyed by Peter Van De Rey, who was Dutch but lived in England. Throughout this period, according to the service records, it was looked after by Mercedes Dealers, and serviced at 701, 5,976, 11,901, 17,642, 24,632 and 30,716 miles. At this point, it continued its life in the world of media and music, being purchased by A-Z Music Services at around 35,000 miles for Patrick Prendergast. Once again, the maintenance record is continuous with attention from Alan Day, Mercedes and Cairnmead BMW with invoices on file. In 1996, Mr Prendergast offered the car to a friend, Steve Fernie of Cold Harbour Recording, who later transferred the registration into his own name in 1998. He retained the car for 14 years but it was little used, covering only a few thousand miles, but was started often, had regular oil changes and was looked after by M-B specialist, Derrick Wells. The car was purchased by our vendor in April 2010 to add to his collection of SL Mercedes. He bought it primarily because of its condition but nevertheless sent it to a marque specialist to check for any rust, including the important bulkhead area. Although generally very good, our vendor is particularly fastidious and decided to have the car stripped and resprayed, refurbish the wheels, fit new tyres, replace the heater fan unit and carry out various other small works. When it was complete, it was sent to D Class Automotive who fitted a replacement hood and replaced the door, hood and other seals - a time-consuming job.Since then it has remained in his SL Collection and used sparingly during the summer months. Over the years, that use has decreased, so the decision was taken to sell it and it was entrusted to Pentangle Mercedes in April of this year for a pre-sale recommission. The account for this amounted to £2,526.87, bringing our vendor’s total investment during his ownership to £13,851.47. These invoices are in the history file alongside others from previous ownership. The file also contains 15 MOT Certificates corroborating the indicated mileage, the service record, Owners Manual, electric aerial instructions and the usual dealer-supplied book pack. It even retains its original First Aid kit, warning triangle, jack and tool roll. The Cherished Registration Number C22 JDS will remain on the car. This is an exceptional example of the 5-litre R107 with just 65,200 miles from new and a detailed ownership and service history from day one. We invite and encourage your inspection of this classic Mercedes.Specification Make: MERCEDES Model: 500SL Year: 1986 Chassis Number: WDB1070462A033853 Registration Number: C22 JDS Transmission: Auto Engine Number: 11796222006325 Drive Side: Right-hand Drive Odometer Reading: 65202 Miles Make: RHD Interior Colour: Black LeatherClick here for more details and images

Lot 154

Remarkable performance from the 493bhp supercharged V8, a folding hardtop, classic looks, outstanding specification and just 29,000 miles from new. Released in 2002 following five years of development, the R230 series SL Roadster was a high-performance luxury convertible produced between 2002 and 2008 representing a harmonious blend of opulence and power. Painstakingly modelled on a state-of-the-art supercomputer which enabled the designers to analyse every curve and line, it looked utterly sensational with an air of barely contained aggression that gave it huge road presence. Packed full of sophisticated electronic driver aids which made it immensely safe but still fun to drive, it was an instant success and is widely considered to be the best-looking Mercedes for many years. It remains an iconic symbol of Mercedes' commitment to combining luxury and performance, appealing to those who seek the best of both worlds in a grand tourer. In late 2003, the stunning SL55 AMG was introduced causing shockwaves in the early-2000s performance car market with near-supercar levels of acceleration and handling, packaged in a comfortable, elegant convertible geared towards touring capability. Seriously powerful and impressively fast, the supercharged 5.4-litre V8 was rated at 493bhp with a stump-pulling 520 lbs.ft of torque. The cars were fitted with an uprated 5-speed automatic featuring AMG's 'Speedshift', and there were a number of trim differences including uprated seats and the SL55 sat on a set of striking, multi-spoke AMG alloys.First registered on the 09/06/2003, this SL55 is finished in Obsidian Black over Exclusive Black and Anthracite Leather punctuated by ‘AMG aluminium’ inlays on the door cards and centre console. The options list in 2003 was packed full of state-of-the-art equipment and, it would appear in this case, most of the boxes had been ticked including:220 - Parktronic System404/405 Multi-contour Seats415 Glass Roof with ambient lighting487 - ABC Suspension (Active Body Control)618 - Bi-Xenon Headlamps772 - AMG Styling Package -Front Spoiler, Side Skirt810 - Premium Sound System819 - CD Changer860 - TV-Tuner Analog873 - Seat Heater for Left and Right Front Seats875 - Heated Screen Wash System882 - Sensor System and Antitheft Alarm System889 - Keyless-EntryThe history file is rather nicely stocked for such a modern car and includes many receipts and a full-service history from Mercedes. Showing an odometer reading of some 28,995 miles, at the time of cataloguing this car represents incredible value for money. The car presents exceptionally well and appears almost unmarked. The engine bay looks showroom fresh and the whole car has patently been looked after. Ballistically quick, fabulous looks, continent covering pace, yet as civilised in town as a Toyota Corolla, it's no wonder that some 'supercar' owners tend to get a little upset.Specification Make: MERCEDES-BENZ Model: SL55 AMG Year: 2003 Chassis Number: WDB2304742F054845 Registration Number: BL03 WNS Transmission: Automatic Engine Number: 11399260016415 Drive Side: Right-hand Drive Odometer Reading: 29100 Miles Make: RHD Interior Colour: Black LeatherClick here for more details and images

Lot 173

A must-have for any car collector, the genesis of motorised transport. A painstakingly accurate replica in fantastic condition. Karl Benz, the brilliant German mechanical engineer, forever etched his name in the annals of automotive history in 1885 when he conceived and brought to life the world’s inaugural automobile, powered by an internal-combustion engine. Despite the existence of a handful of mechanically propelled contraptions across the globe at the time, it’s the Benz Motorwagen that stands as the indisputable pioneer. This innovative marvel took the form of a tricycle with two imposing rear wheels, propelled by a chain-drive single-speed drivetrain. The engine was equipped with a substantial horizontal flywheel to maintain the rotations churned out by a 954cc single-cylinder engine, delivering an awe-inspiring 0.9 horsepower. With this newfound power, the 3-wheeled wonder could hurtle down the road at an astonishing 16kph, an astounding feat for its era.Remarkably, it was Karl Benz’s wife, Bertha, who played an instrumental role in propelling the Motorwagen into the spotlight. In 1888, she embarked on a pioneering journey, the first documented long-distance trek by a vehicle driven by an internal combustion engine. Her expedition covered approximately 65 miles, spanning from Mannheim to her birthplace in Pforzheim. This arduous odyssey consumed around 13 gruelling hours and was executed without her husband Karl’s knowledge or the blessings of the authorities. The triumphant and well-documented voyage undoubtedly thrust the Benz Motorwagen into the global limelight.Given the international acclaim surrounding the Benz vehicle and Bertha’s historic journey, it was only a matter of time before a plethora of faithful running replicas emerged. Access to the original machine was generously granted, facilitating the acquisition of critical data and measurements, resulting in replicas that were genuine toolroom copies. So authentic were these reproductions that Mercedes-Benz Classic, the custodians of this automotive legacy, themselves commissioned around 100 of them. This serves as a true testament to the manufacturer’s commitment to preserving the rich heritage of the Motorwagen.Today we have the privilege of presenting one such replica, a pristine specimen that has most recently been in esteemed company, sharing its quarters with world-class collection of cars from almost every era of motoring. This offering represents a golden opportunity and is an absolute essential for any discerning collector. It stands as a guaranteed conversation starter and a captivating exhibit, shedding light on the origins of the beloved world of motoring as we know and cherish it today. Although being in running order, It is noted the cylinder drip feed oiler will need replacing before use.Specification Make: BENZ Model: PATENT MOTORWAGEN REPLICA Year: 1886 Chassis Number: TBC Registration Number: N/A Transmission: Single Speed Engine Number: TBC Drive Side: Left-hand Drive Make: LHD Interior Colour: Natural Woood & leather Click here for more details and images

INDIANA JONES AND THE DIAL OF DESTINY (2023) - Mercedes Car Driven by Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford)A Mercedes car driven by Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) in James Mangold's action-adventure sequel Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. During the 1944-set opening sequence, a younger Indy stole a military staff car to break out of a Nazi stronghold, and engaged in a car chase with two motorcycles, which led to the car crashing and exploding as Indy made his escape on one of the bikes. This black Mercedes 170 was one of two used for filming. Originally produced in the mid-to-late 1940s, it has been modified for the production, with several inches added in the rear footwell; extended rear doors; and a Perspex® windscreen. It has also been reglazed and retrimmed. The engine is a modern Ford Zetec engine with a stunt fuel tank, while the car also features a drifting handbrake lever, a brown leather interior and rear-hinged (or "suicide") front doors. The outside of the car retains dirt and grime from the production, and the shell has damage in several areas from the chase sequence, most notably on the front wheel arches.
