Les Roses d'Isfahan - La Perse en Automobile a Travers la Russie et le Caucase by Claude Anet, 213pp, 1906, 4to (296 x 205mm), published by Juven of Paris. This rare book is about an automobile expedition throughout Persia and the Caucuses in two Mercedes tourers and a Fiat motor-car during 1905, this being a particularly significant journey through unknown territory, and possibly the first to journey into the Russian Steppes. Well-illustrated with 40 well-defined monochrome photographs and detailed French text. Contemporary dark red quarter calf with marbled boards the tight spine in five compartments of gilt bands, with gilt tooling on 2, 3 and 4. With marbled free end-papers, this example would appear to be a special binding around the original pictorial soft cover. Lower corners knocked, a little surface loss to the rear and front cover, otherwise sound Claude Anet was the pseudonym for Jean Schopfer (1868? - 1931) and used during his writing career. Schopfer was a tennis player competing for France, having reached two singles finals at the Amateur French Championships, winning in 1892 over British player Fassitt, and losing in 1893 to Laurent Riboulet. Mercedes-Benz 1886-1986, by Jurgen Lewandowski. 1st ed, 1986. No. 409 of a Special Limited Edition of 1,000 copies published for the Friends of Daimler-Benz (fur die Freunde des Hauses Daimler-Benz). Signed by the author on the limitation page in Volume I. Another excellent two-volume set in a slipcase in a similar but very slightly larger format to the preceding lot, being published by Edita Schroder & Weise. Copy of purchase receipt taped to front free end-paper and the dust jackets both protected by clear polythene. Superbly illustrated in monochrome and colour. Tri-lingual text in German, French and English. Blue cloth covers with silver lettering/decoration. (1)

Known as the three silver arrows, Auto Union and Mercedes dominated Grand Prix racing until the outbreak of World War II. (1)

SCHUMACHER, numerous sponsorship logos, the back of the collar with FIA accreditation; sold with a letter of authenticity signed by Sabine Kehm, Managing Director, The MS Office, Gland, Switzerland, dated 17th December 2015 and confirming that this suit was worn during the 2011 Turkish GP. Michael Schumacher-signed large racing helmet design poster,the signature dated 2013, a company promotional edition titled SCHUBERTH - HEAD PROTECTION TECHNOLOGY and featuring his marker pen signature between images of him with his Mercedes F1 car and his 2009 Honda German Superbike, mounted, framed & glazed, 97 by 72cm. Michael Schumacher helped the Schuberth company develop the first lightweight carbon-fibre helmets that are now commonly used throughout motorsport. Ironically this technology helped save Felipe Massa from severe head injuries when hit by flying debris in practice for the Austrian GP in 2009, an episode which subsequently prompted Michael's F1 comeback.

This example is finished in metallic blue with a contrasting full tan leather interior with all the usual luxury bells and whistles of an Elegance equipped example. Unfortunately the passenger side of the car has sustained some light damage which will now require some attention, but otherwise the car would appear in good condition for its age.
