It passed its most recent MOT without any advisories and will be offered for auction with its dealer supplied owner's pack with handbooks, some previous MOTs and a receipt for service and maintenance (£245). A 1964/1967 registered Mercedes-Benz 230 SL Pagoda, registration number TGC 157E, chassis number 113042220009990, silver. Unveiled at the 1963 Geneva Motor Show to an appreciative audience, the second generation Paul Bracq designed SL would go on to be a very successful addition to the Mercedes range with 19,831 230 SLs being manufactured by its production end in 1973. The new crisp styling incorporated the Pagoda hardtop, so called because of its resemblance to a Chinese Pagoda roof, a monocoque chassis equipped with all round independent suspension, power assisted steering, assisted discs/drum brakes and a 150 bhp straight six engine with either four speed manual or automatic transmission. This automatic 230 SL was original registered overseas and would receive its first British registration mark in 1967. Finished in a traditional colour scheme of silver coachwork with a contrasting black leather interior, matching mohair softop and works hardtop, she is fitted with the desirable option of alloy wheels and a modern stereo system concealed behind a period radio front. There is a large history file accompanying the SL with numerous receipts for thousands of pounds, previous owner history including a film company and IBM, previous MOTs and sundry paperwork. The vendor advises us that the Mercedes is mechanically good having been fettled for everyday use but he feels that there is some room for improvement in regards to the bodywork/paintwork and interior as time allows. V5C, MOT to June 2018 See cover and other illustrations

Chronographe De Sport Suretime wristwatch given to Bernd Rosemeyer by Rudolf Caracciola. The inscription on the back of the watch reads 'Von Caracciola, An Meinen Guten Freund, Rosemeyer' (From Caracciola, to my good friend, Rosemeyer) and surrounds a German Nazi NSKK emblem. Bernd Rosemeyer (14 October 1909 - 28 January 1938) nicknamed 'The Silver Comet' was a German racing driver who grew up racing motorcycles before moving onto cars and joining the German racing team Auto Union. Otto Wilhelm Rudolf Caracciola (30 January 1901 - 28 September 1959) was also a German racing driver and raced for Mercedes during their 'Silver Arrows' period. The pair competed against each other in the European Drivers' Championships and built a strong rivalry with the younger Rosemeyer competing to take the top spot from Caracciola, who was believed to be the greatest racing driver of their generation. Whilst competing on the track at speeds of over 200mph Rosemeyer for Auto Union and Caracciola for Mercedes were also competing for the land speed record after leader of the German Nazi party Adolf Hitler decided in 1938 that it must be attained by a German man driving a German car on a German road. On 28th January 1938 both Rosemeyer and Caracciola set out to break the record on a section of Autobahn between Frankfurt and Darmstadt and after a couple of successful runs Caracciola came in at a record breaking 268mph. On the next attempt to go one better Rosemeyer set of along the section of autobahn and reached speeds aleged to be in excess of over 270mph before a crosswind caught the car sending it careering out of control and throwing Rosemeyer to his death at the oge of only 28. Rosemeyer was buried with full military honours as a member of the Nazi SS party.
