7th-8th century AD. A trapezoidal bronze mount comprising an openwork plaque and lozengiform cell with red enamel fill, hook to the upper edge formed as a duck's head with curved c-section beak. 11 grams, 45mm (1 3/4"). Private collection, UK; formed in the 1980s. [No Reserve] Fine condition.
16th century AD or later. A broad flat-section hoop with repeated cross cleché design; rectangular bezel with reserved lion passant gardant on a red enamel field. 14 grams, 23mm overall, 20.71mm internal diameter (approximate size British W, USA 11, Europe 25.0, Japan 24) (1"). From the private collection of an Essex gentleman. Very fine condition.

A D-section silver hoop with vertically ribbed shoulders, discoid bezel with radiating bars to the outer face of the cell, inset blue enamel plaque with quadruped motif. 9.74 grams, 26mm overall, 18.93mm internal diameter (approximate size British R 1/2, USA 8 3/4, Europe 19.38, Japan 18) (1"). 13th century AD. A bronze flat-section quatrefoil harness pendant with pierced suspension lug; heater shield with red enamel fill, three gilt lions passant gardant to the field, some gilding to the border. Cf. Ashley, S. Medieval Armorial Horse Furniture in Norfolk, East Anglian Archaeology 101, Dereham, 2002, item 207. 12 grams, 41mm (1 3/4"). Found near Gloucester, Gloucestershire, UK; in 2004. Fine condition.
13th-15th century AD. A heater-shaped bronze pendant with lug above; reserved arms of three lions on a red enamel field, blazoned 'gules three lions passant or'. The arms are similar to those of the royal family of England, but the lions face forwards rather than towards the viewer (gardant). The blazon of the arms of Sir John Gifford indicates that the lions should be silver or white (argent). 6.11 grams, 27mm (1"). From an important collection of horse harness pendants and mounts; property of a Suffolk, UK, gentleman. [No Reserve] Fine condition; loop absent.
13th-15th century AD. A mixed group of bronzes comprising: a quatrefoil pendant with lobes between the leaves, central square with lion passant gardant reserved on a field of red enamel, reserved fleur-de-lys in each D-shaped panel; a square pendant with lion passant on a pelletted field; a leaf-shaped pendant with border of flowers and tendrils, reserved wolf with spear. A gilt-bronze heraldic disc mount with central heater shield within a beaded border and outer legend 'AVE MARIA GRACIA' in Lombardic capitals; the shield with enamel design of a red cross on a silver (?) field; remains of suspension lug above. 5.99 grams, 23mm (1"). Property of a West Yorkshire lady; collected from 1978-2008. Fine condition.
14th century AD. A rectangular bronze banneret with tubular hinge to one long edge; reserved motif of a peacock with foliage in blue and red enamel on a gilt yellow field to both faces. Recorded with the Portable Antiquities Scheme with reference number KENT-D7CCF3; accompanied by a print out of the PAS report. 25 grams, 43mm (1 3/4"). Found Hastingleigh, Kent, UK, 2013. "Fine condition; enamel almost complete, some surface erosion to exposed metal."
2nd century AD. A bronze brooch comprising a deep bow with median plaque and diaper-pattern enamel, openwork body with transverse axles and free-running blue and white glass beads, addorsed beast-head finials with inset glass eyes; hinged pin to the reverse and catchplate with hole for attachment of a chain or cord. Cf. Hattatt, R. Ancient and Romano-British Brooches, Sherborne, 1982, item 146. 14 grams, 54mm (2 1/4"). From an old North Country collection; formed between 1970-2000. Very fine condition.

A mixed group of bronze brooches comprising: an axe-shaped plate brooch with blue and red enamel fill, pin and catchplate to the reverse; a fibula of La Tène III type; a composite plate brooch with piriform polychrome enamel panel, heart-shaped foot, treble loop above and lateral lobes. Cf. Hattatt, R. Ancient Brooches and Other Artefacts, Oxford, 1989, item 1629; Hattatt, R. Ancient and Romano-British Brooches, Sherborne, 1982, items 8 and 145. 18 grams total, 27-47mm (1 - 2"). 1st century BC-2nd century AD. A pair of bronze pendants, each formed as two discs each with three radiating lobes, one of loops and the other of trapezoidal plaques, red enamel infill to the centre, connected by an enamelled triangular plaque to a thick suspension loop. 8.14 grams total, 39mm (1 1/2"). Property of a gentleman; acquired in the 1990s. [2, No Reserve] Fine condition.
18th century AD. A small D-section hoop with herringbone pattern of cells to the outer face, some with remains of red and turquoise enamel fill; to the inner face in bold seriffed capitals the legend 'PRENE+EN+GRE+' (accept in gratitude), the motto of the Ogles family. The Ogle or Ogles family is associated with Northumberland and the Scottish Borders, and included several prominent men in its several branches, including Sir Robert Ogle (1379–1436), sheriff of Islandshire and Norhamshire, the most northerly English lands, and Warden of Roxburgh Castle from 1425. 1.88 grams, 16mm overall, 13.63mm internal diameter (approximate size British E, USA 2 1/2, Europe 2.76, Japan 2) (3/4"). From an important London collection, acquired in the 1970s. Very fine condition.
3rd century AD. A large bronze Baltic bow brooch of the 'ladder brooch' type of ogee profile; the headplate trapezoidal with lateral loops and lugs to attach the prominently placed spring, central recess with red enamel infill; the bow with transverse herringbone detail, wide transverse bar at the apex with herringbone pattern to the centre, keeled concave extension to a second similar transverse bar, flared footplate with central enamel-filled panel, ropework (?) detailing; large catchplate to the reverse. Cf. ladder brooches in Griciuviene, E. Seliai. The Selonians, Vilnius, 2007, item 507. 70 grams, 10.5cm (4"). From an old Munich collection; acquired on the German art market before 2000.
