Henry Pierce Bone painted another version of this work for Queen Victoria in 1843 (Royal Collection no. RCIN 421709).

Late 19th century Japanese ivory carved snuff bottle and cover, formed as a double gourd issuing from a vine, supported by a crouching man, enriched in traces of enamel and gilding, 10.5cm high Condition ReportCover has been glued in place and not removed or properly inspected, hairline crack that runs up the man's back, noticeable wear to the enamel and gilt spots on the man's tunic and some wear overall. We cannot guarantee the type of ivory, but are fairly sure it is elephant ivory.
