Military Interest, an early 19th century diamond and enamel mourning brooch, the blue enamelled navette shaped panel beneath an urn set with old cut diamonds, the reverse engraved Sir John Moore 1809, 3cm long Lieutenant-General Sir John Moore, KB, (13 November 1761 - 16 January 1809) was a British soldier and General, also known as Moore of Corunna. He is best known for his military training reforms and for his death at the Battle of Corunna, in which he defeated a French army under Marshal Soult during the Peninsular War. Moore's funeral was commemorated in the poem "The Burial of Sir John Moore after Corunna" by Charles Wolfe (1791-1823), which became popular in 19th century poetry anthologies.

Glass has been broken and repaired with transparent glue, in an oblique line following diamond faceting, and in one section across faceting. the mount has sections cut, of the three side adjoining sections, two are cut, the middle two have been joined by gold coloured strips ( metal not tested ) one section at bottom also has strips, not joined, the other side is loose. Enamel, cap and remainder of mount good condition, inner glass stopper fits well
