A Japanese Cloisonne Enamel Koro and Cover, by Namikawa Yasuyuki (1845-1927), circa 1880-1890, of spherical form, the domed cover with chrysanthemum finial, worked in coloured enamels and gold and silver wire with three cream coloured panels with insects amongst flowering branches on a dark blue ground with scattered chrysanthemums within formal panelled borders, four character signature to silver tablet, 11.5cm high See illustration Having been a Samurai, Namikawa Yasuyuki began working as an artist after the Restoration of the Meiji Dynasty. He joined the Kyoto Cloisonne Company in 1871, leaving three years later to form his own company, whose works were displayed at several international exhibitions, and visits to his workshop became popular with foreign visitors, including Rudyard Kipling. The quality of his work received recognition in 1896 when he became one of only two cloisonne artists ever to be appointed Imperial Household Artist to create works of art for the Tokyo Imperial Palace and other Imperial residences. Examples of his work are on display in the Victoria & Albert Museum, the Ashmolean Museum, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Khalili Collection of Japanese Art, as well as various museums in Japan. Some typical minor flaws to enamel. Three small areas of loss to gilding on upper rim of pot. Some very minor surface wear throughout.

The pendant is in fair condition. Some of the seed pearl detailing has become loose. It bears no hallmark nor stamp. Gross weight 37.2 grams. CR made 08.02.21.

~ Two Enamelled Gilt-Metal Propelling Pencils, First Half 20th Century, each modelled as a differing Egyptian sarcophagus, with vari-colour enamel, each with suspension loop, 12.5cm long extended and smaller (2) . Each opens fully and properly. There is some surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. The wear is noticeable as a softening to the high points. There are some minor chips and losses to the enamel.

Total watch weight 161g.

Its meetings were held on the birthdays of the King and Queen, but after Mr Pitt's retirement from office and the celebrated meeting of 1802 at which upwards of 900 people attended the Hall of the Merchant Taylors, the members of this association met on the anniversaries of Mr Pitt's birthday until 1808 when it was thought a more extensive society might be formed to perpetuate the principles of this illustrious statesman. The first dinner held in 1808 cost £841-8-6. Subsequently, approximately 45 country clubs were established and many of these issued badges in bronze, silver gilt and silver, as well as in pewter. Rule 10 of the London club reads That each member shall wear at all meetings of the Club the Pitt medal, tied on his left breast with a garter blue ribbon and that the larger medal with the wider ribbon be worn by the chairman of the day.. As per description the 2nd medal lacking the cameo, this medal also has some wear and minor dents.

COALPORT; a pair of gilt and floral enamel decorated ewers with shaped rims and loop handles, both with green printed marks to bases, height 17.8cm (restored) (2).Additional InformationOne with clear restoration to the other part of the foot, this vase has had further work to the lower section of the neck and handle area. Possibly further restoration to both pieces, some rubbing to enamelling, light surface scratches, some rubbing to gilt, etc.

A mixed group of ceramics including 19th century Willow pattern meat plate, width 40cm, drainer and small oval dish, Coalport comport and twin handled dish (both af), a Spode (probably) pot pourri upper section with jewelled enamel detail on pink ground with gilt heightening, two Hummel figures, a pair of Chinese Imari dishes and a small pair of Chinese enamelled sleeve vases (both af), and a pair of Japanese Satsuma landscape decorated vases.Additional InformationBoth Coalport pieces badly af with cracks, Both sleeve vases badly cracked. Only the upper section of the potpourri present, as stated and there is significant rubbing to the gilding, a firing crack and further rubbing to the detail. Both Imari dishes with heavy rubbing, fritting and some small chips. The blue and white ware with usual scuffs and scrapes commensurate with age and use. The Hummel figures with light surface wear, some rubbing to the detail and crazing. Satsuma vases crazed with rubbing to the gilding.

A pair of Chinese baluster twin handled vases with enamelled figural decoration, unmarked, height 37.4cm, and a further late 19th/early 20th century vase with bronzed detail, incised character mark to base, height 43cm (restored) (3).Additional InformationThe third mentioned vase has had restoration to neck, further wear, rubbing to enamel decoration, manufacturing imperfections, etc throughout.
